Since 1949, we've provided warm, western hospitality to our guests! In July of 2010 we were accepted into the National Registry of Historic Places. Come experience the rich history at the "Dude"!

Story

The Dude Rancher Lodge is located in downtown Billings. We are proud to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places, which is America’s official list of important properties that provide a valuable link to the past and have been deemed worthy of preservation. Built in 1949, our hotel near downtown Billings is a rustic ranch that features weeping brick mortar and full-length porches. Our interior is designed with knotty pine paneling, custom-built western-style furnishings, decorative lampshades and carpeting that is adorned with the brands of local ranchers who originally invested in the property.

I had such a great stay here! The front desk staff were SO welcoming and helpful, even after I made every mistake trying to get into my room. She was so patient and down to earth. I really liked my room and the convenient parking in the courtyard. It was quiet, the bed was very comfortable with good linens, and I loved the intensity of the shower. I was traveling with 2 dogs and it was still easy, other than not having a pet relief area. We went across the street to soke grass. There wasn't great temperature control kindof either AC on or off and the fan is constant but the room was cool. It was cozy and clean and everyone was nice.
If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. The noise from the heating and cooling fan will wake you every time it kicks on as it sounds like someone trying to break into your room. For a historic place, the rooms fall short of the warm cozy feeling provided in the lobby by the large fireplace. cinder block walls, an exposed pipe, and dingy carpets negates any historic charm that may have existed.
Gross place. Check out the pictures. A picture tells a thousand words. Better beds on the side of the road. The last three pics is what i really think should be done. Sleep in fear of the bed and wake up wondering why you stayed and did not just leave???? But thanks for the mugs as a gift as they made cool shots. Check out the gross pics and the only fun I had at the dude Rancher Lodge. And yes it was done in a safe place. Unlike the bed in the hotel.
This is the 2nd time staying in Billings in the last 2 weeks. Does Billings have something against having box springs? The staff was super friendly. The hotel was quaint and cozy near downtown locations. It is more like a motel then a 3 star hotel like Hotels.com said though. A/C didn't really catch up through the night and there is no shampoo or soap in the rooms. Again they have a very friendly staff, just was not what I expected.
Staff we're courtesy. Service was good. Downtown area with parking within Lodge area. We we're able to walk to the Alberta Bair Theater for a performance safely. I was quite surprised how quiet it was at night & parking was right in front of my door, making unpacking & packing easy. My family loved it! They said it felt like they were in cabin, with the cabin wood smell. Upgrades done in bathroom, beds, tv. We will stay again on future stays.
