Just ate here based on good reviews. The concept is locally sourced ingredients in a semi fine dining presentation. For the price I expected more. They offer tasting menus which I normally love. Assuming the menu is good and balanced. The partridge was chewy and not particularly good. They could replace this with chicken or anything with a better texture. The crab in butter was great but a small portion. Most of the vegetables did taste really refreshing though. In the end we were still hungry. So they threw in an extra dish which was some braised short rib like dish at no charge. I don’t know why this isn’t on the regular menu from the beginning. The place is good and the chefs know what they are doing. But the set menu choices and meal balance needs some tweaking.

Truly amazing food, casual atmosphere (a bit too noisy), nice service. The chef cooks local and seasonal products with a perfect balance of flavors and textures in each of his dishes. A lot of vegetables, perfect size of portions, “the chef menu” gives full enjoyment without feeling over fed. Nice plating in Japanese inspired ceramics. Oh! And the chef manages to accommodate everyone’s likes/dislikes at the table in a perfect manner.

I have never taken the time to review a restaurant before, but after our unforgettable meal at Actinolite last night I am feeling inspired. This was probably the best meal I have ever eaten in Toronto. The food is locally sourced and seasonally inspired, which didn't sound too promising to me initially, but in fact each dish with a little work of culinary art. The attention to detail is amazing. The dishes are small, but with the set menu I was amply full by the end of the evening. The atmosphere is low-key and friendly, and utterly unpretentious. Worth the effort.

Went here a few months ago. Not impressed for the cost. One of the dishes was just tomato’s and olive oil and another was just bread. The fish entree we had was good. There’s better fixed price restaurant’s like Canis.
