ACE Rent A Car

Despite all the bad reviews, I wanted to let you know that we had an EXCELLENT experience with Ace at Montreal YUL. We rented a car for 4 days the end of May / early June 2022 to visit the Algonquin park. The car was nothing short of amazing. The pick-up was swiftly and within 10 minutes we were able to drive off with a BRAND NEW Honda Civic. The costs were the same as the estimation in advance and yes a lot of costs are on top of the rental price you see initially at their website. HOWEVER these costs are specified in your rental agreement, so for us there were no surprises. I would recommend to get you own insurance from home, it will save you some money. The drop off was also super fast and the guy from the shop also brought us to the airport which was out of a gesture, its not in their price or anything which was really helpfull. The only downside for me was that they hold the reservation the deposit for quite a long time AFTER the rental. They said it would be 3-5 days, but eventually it stayed as a reservation for 20 days. Still 5/5 for the service, speed and type of car that we got!

It was better than one-star: clean car, non-welcoming customer service, slightly over-priced after insurance and mileage surcharge. It was not a nightmare but all the complaints from other reviews are true. The owner should have disclosed all the information hidden fees, location, etc during the booking stage. Otherwise, it was a scam. Avoid if you have better options. The place is not in the airport. The owner offered me a trip to the airport when I returned the airport, but refused to pick me up from the airport when I arrived. My arriving flight was late than the scheduled time to pick up the car but I don’t think this should not be an issue with an average car renter. The $0.2/km mileage surcharge over 200km/day was never mentioned during the booking process but I was informed at the shop. From other comments, it seems that the information is in the owner’s website but it is the owner’s responsibility to inform the customers that book through 3rd party website.

To be avoided. The person behind the counter was very eager to hustle me for whatever extra he could. My rental was held hostage & while I would have liked to refuse, I was in no place to do so & the person behind the counter took full advantage of that. He surcharged an extra 12$/day for my rental after my arrival, told me that residents of Quebec do not get unlimited mileage even though it was specifically stated on the online booking for that we do, and added on extra insurance even though I instructed him specifically that it was not needed. The rental ended up costing more than double what was quoted when I booked online - on top of that the gas was only ½ full & the car was out of windshield washer fluid which I had to purchase on my own money.

We regret ever renting from Ace Rent-A-Car. Better off going with the bigger companies like Avis, Hertz and etcthey are located in the airport terminal Less chance of getting ripped off. This place you have to take a shuttle that operates after 9am, and or taxis$21 we ended up paying for taxis because our arrival was 7am.This place was outside the airport terminal. When we arrived, it was a old White House with a small lot with 2 cars beside it I already had a bad feeling of about this… Me and my wife went in and he said only one. So my wife went it by her self as she paid with her visa and under nurse discount. After everything was said to my wife you have to pay for basic insurance when driving in Quebec…which is a lie! We are from Vancouver, British Columbia, freakin Canadian! That cost us 30 dollars per day…5 days 150 dollars. She ended agreeing to it because she felt pressured and wanted to just go. We rented the car for total of 5 days, on the morning of our 5th day, my wife ended up hitting a pothole in the expessway heads up Montreal has a lot of potholes!. We ended up getting a flat tire. My wife called them and said you would have to paid for the flat, the basic insurance doesn’t cover that. We didn’t want to give more money to this company and went to auto shop in Montreal to get help. The guy said you can’t fix the tire because the side wall is ripped. So we ended up going to two Canadian tires, and some other tire places, none had this unique “245/40 R19 all season tire”. Tried for 4 hours and ended up driving back to them and paying the cost. They charged us 500 dollars for the flat tire. We were like fine, we checked and our credit card covers for damages. After submitting the claim to Manulife, they denied our claim because we got and paid for the basic insurance! There goes our 500 dollars…sad. We thought by using my wife nursing benefits we would save money, but instead we spent double on renting a car from this company. Montreal was fun and interesting but this Ace Rent A Car really ruined our experience. On the positive note, they did drive us to the airport.

now is Economy. cheap but cheaters. i rented in Dorval by montreal airport. most important check the car with them take pictures and if they check below you make sure you dont see anything in the engine cover plate below the car. with a tine bend one you park in the snow it will bend more and you will be charged for it. make sure you bring your reservation and dont let them charge you more. reservation said 300$ then they wanted to cahnge me 380$. that we fixed after i showed the reservation

Terrible terrible service. Employees were yelling at each other in front of customers. A tourist family from Spain was worried and did not a car. I confronted the clerk and did not give me a car either. I’ve never seen such a bad service in my entire life. They should be fired.

Rented a car in Tampa Florida, had a bow out on highway , took to garage to get new tire and they tolds me tires are finished and shoudl never drive on worn tires .Had to buy 2 new tires and Ace would not give credit but were willing to sendme anothe car in about 5 hours , I was on a buisness trip and could not wait that long .Took old tire back to Ace and no coment .If I were to hve had a bad accident because of haveing wornout tires and got injured it would have cost them alot more than 2 new tires which I ended up paying for , spend more use a reliable company that has it's custoemr well being at heart

This is the absolute worst company I have ever worked with. After reserving my car months in advance. I show up at 8AM the time that I reserved the car for Also the time that they open. They did not open on time and didn't answer the door when we knocked even though we heard the worker on the phone through the door. When he finally answered he said he did not have a car for us. Not only that but he was completely unapologetic and blamed it on us saying "We should have called first". I said you open at 8am do you want me to call an office with no one in there. I was in shock. The lack of professionalism was truly unbelievable and I wish anyone luck who decides to book with these awful people. I wish I could give 0 stars.

Do not risk ruining your vacation by booking with this company. We arrived, called Ace to receive our rental that we booked through Expedia and they said sorry, we have no car for you. There was no explanation, no apology, no solution. We called back an hour later to ask for help as all the rental companies had nothing to spare and they said they could not help. What kind of business does this? Do not book even if you see one positive review. Please believe the 1.3 rating they have. It speaks volumes!

I will never do business with this company again. The service is below average. An ill-mannered service, no service, no, never this again. Better take another company, pay a little more, and get decent people who treat you well. I rent cars up to 5 times a year, but I've never experienced this. The message is to stay away.
