We visited Port Hope for a little day trip after our wedding yesterday since both of us have to go right back to work on Monday, so we decided to postpone our honeymoon for later. Port Hope had been on our bucket list for years, and we’re so glad we finally came.nnSince it was our first time visiting, we spent a while deciding where to eat and ended up choosing Trattoria Gusto — honestly one of the best decisions we made on this trip.nnAfter our wedding ceremony yesterday, both my husband and I were mentally and physically exhausted. It was raining, cold, and we were honestly not feeling our best. But the potato bacon soup of the day completely changed our mood. It warmed us up instantly and somehow melted away all the exhaustion.nnI didn’t get her name, but our server — a lovely blonde woman with braided hair — was incredibly kind and attentive. She checked on our table often without being overwhelming, and when we asked questions about the menu, she explained everything so warmly and patiently that it genuinely lifted our mood.nnWe ordered the pineapple mocktail mojitos, which we loved because they weren’t overly sweet. I had the lobster and shrimp risotto, and my husband had the carbonara. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The seasoning was perfect, the pasta was cooked beautifully, and everything was creamy without feeling heavy or greasy.nnFor dessert, we ordered the tiramisu. The salted pistachio chocolate garnish was such a nice touch, and the tiramisu itself was light and balanced instead of overly rich.nnNext time we visit, we won’t even need to think about where to eat — we’ll come straight back here again.
Made in CanadanSupporting local, supporting ourselves.nDate Night.nDinner & Live Theatre in Port Hope.nYesterday we had our 1st visit to Trattoria Gusto. We food. We have been remiss in not visiting much sooner. Will remedy that moving forward. Our server Sara, engaging & attentive was instrumental in making our visit, very comfortable.nThe food exceptional. Antipasti, we shared brussel sprouts caesar fritti - fried brussels sprouts, gusto caesar dressing, parmigiana, pezzetti di pancetta.nPrimi, we each chose the lobster fra diavolo - garlic butter lobster, spicy lobster crema, spaghetti, pecorino. Check out the spaghetti nest piled high!!!nOn draught featured offerings from Publican House, a Brew Pub in nearby Peterborough.
We visited Port Hope for the day and started by admiring their charming downtown. We stumbled on this restaurant inside the historic Waddell Hotel, and it turned out to be such a great find. The building is old in the best way, and you can actually feel its character from the echo in the dining rooms. It’s cozy, charming, and full of that Port Hope small-town warmth.nnThe menu is surprisingly extensive, with lots of classic Italian dishes — perfect if you’re craving pasta like I was. I ordered the Tuscan Gambertto: large tiger shrimp, chicken, nduja sausage, spinach, olives, all tossed in a creamy vodka sauce. It absolutely hit the spot, and bonus points for offering both chili flakes and chili oil. My friends shared the Brooklyn Pizza and Caesar Salad, and there wasn’t a single bite left on any of our plates.nnThe quality was great, the prices were reasonable, and the service was genuinely friendly. If you’re looking for delicious Italian food in Port Hope or a cozy restaurant with charm and history, this is a must-try. We’ll definitely be back.
Great double smash burger with all the fixins, fresh, delicious, and a pretty decent price point as well. The fries were super crispy and amazing, I wasn't sure what to order but once the waitress listed this bad boy as the special, my mind was made up!nn10/10 Highly Recommend
What a great find!nI had driven buy and heard of Trattoria Gusto numerous times, but this was our first visit. This restaurant is idyllically located right next to the Gararaska River and it can be seen and heard from the beautiful outdoor patio.nService was good. Food was even better.nWe shared a Brussel Sprouts appetizer, a spruced up Chicken Parmigiana for the main and a Lemon Mousse Cake for dessert. All of them were delicious and at reasonable prices given the quality of the food. Highly recommended!
