The Halifax common used to be a spooky and scary place after Dark, and during the day it was just a big empty field with sort of unused baseball diamonds. Every once in awhile they would be a festival or a concert or some activity to draw people there but when it wasn't occupied it seems like wasted space. All that has changed in the last few years. The construction of the Halifax Skating Oval was a real game changer, and with the installation of lights and a few other infrastructure improvements it's become a really usable public space. I'm looking forward to greater improvements as time goes on.

Best field in town. Been coming here since I was too young to walk (thanks mom). Lots of cute dogs (off leash, careful!), cute sunbathers, and cuter ultimate frisbee players. My girlfriend argues the baseball players are cuter. Also there's a fountain, and some EMERA CORPORATION BRANDED skating which is, surprisingly, free.

Awesome central city park / recreation area. The Commons has a wide variety of recreation options including a competition size outdoor skating oval, swimming pools, a childrens splash pad, play grounds, basketball courts, soccer and baseball fields, a skateboard park/bowl, and lots of open space to hang out. Can attract a shady crowd at night but that's to be expected for any large central city park.

Great if you love the outdoors. Lots of space to walk and a great kids area. Free pool in the summer. Skate boarding park and roller blading rink. Free skating in the winter at The Oval.

Really like that they offer free skate rentals! The oval is refridgerated so it stays frozen when the weather warms up. Parking can be tricky to find but worth a visit!
