Halifax West KOA

About

KOA (Kampgrounds of America)

Story

Resting on the banks of the Sackville River, this KOA creates a peaceful retreat within reach of many prime attractions. Settle in among open and wooded campsites. Rent a canoe on-site or explore the nearby wooded trails. Then plan your excursions. In downtown Halifax, 30 minutes away, admire the harbor view from the Halifax Citadel, which once guarded this key naval station of the British Empire. Stroll through the Halifax Public Gardens, the oldest Victorian garden in North America. Peggy's Cove, a much-photographed fishing village with a picture-perfect lighthouse and lobster pots, lies a few miles east. Watch the world's highest tides roll in and out of the Bay of Fundy and visit the site of the Acadian village that inspired Longfellow's Evangeline.

Our lot was in the back area (aka, a parking lot) which had no privacy. But, we were out exploring the Halifax surroundings most of the time.. so we were not fussed by this. This place had a great playground for kids- my son loved the inflatable pillow. There was a swimming pool as well, but it was all the way by the front gate. The showers were warm and free- but there was only one in operation during our stay.. and it was dirty most of the time. Despite the negatives, it had a fun family atmosphere that I would definitely want to come back to.

We stayed 4 nights in August and were thoroughly disappointed. It seemed that there were always washrooms with toilets that didn't flush, door locks that were broken or some problem or other with the toilets and showers, completely unacceptable! The garbage bins always seemed to be overflowing and to top it off, they called me while we were out and told me we were supposed to have vacated our site that day. Wrong. They very kindly (after completely freaking us out) told us that we could stay another day. Thanks very much, I can stay in a site that I have booked and paid for already, that's great, you are most kind! On the other hand, we did like the location, and the little lake is pretty and the people did seem nice so 3 stars it is.

Great owners and has kept this up really nicely. Great playground, have a huge jumping pillow and newer playground for all ages. Beautiful lake with Canada geese and even saw a turtle. Have canoes for renting cheap, very impressed.
