I come here all the time for dinner. The staff have great service and they have come to know me very well. This is my go to sushi place whenever I want sushi and the quality is definitely premium. I highly recommend this spot if you’re ever in Markham.
Not sure why this place only has a 3.8 star rating because I think they definitely deserve more than that. We came really late at night so we were worried maybe they wouldn’t serve us but they were so welcoming and friendly. We had miso soups, sashimi, crab salad, salmon tataki and some rolls and everything was good. We were too full to order dessert but I need to order the black sesame ice cream next time I go. It’s pretty rare to see so I was surprised they had it.
DO NOT COME HERE. So many reasons for you to not come here and go to another sushi restaurant instead. - We sat down, ordered our food, asked for water. Water didn't come even after we started eating. - Appetizer came half way into our first rice bowl. - ordered the premium syogun rice bowl, fish was average, quality is not good enough for them to be charging 30 dollars. - also ordered the fried pork cutlet with curry, waitress said the sauce would come shortly after. We waited 15 mins and the sauce never came. Still didn't get our water btw. It got to the point where I had to get up and bring the rice bowl back to cancel. - I complained to the owner I think and asked for the bill. The bill came after another 15 mins. No water still lol - ginger is inedible. Not sure how a sushi restaurant can mess up ginger. Might as well eat McDonald's.
Take out Review: We ordered their Valentine’s Day special Deluxe Box for $42. We also shared their Instagram post and got the premium sushi combo, as well as Syogun Roll, Black Dragon Roll and Vegetable tempura. We were so surprised at how fresh the quality of the sashimi was. They were very generous as well as the box included toro, scallop, sweet shrimp, squid, bluefin AND salmon belly sashimi and sushi. So tasty!! We also enjoyed the one of the rolls in the box where they added truffle. Love truffle and it worked well. I went to pick up at 5:30 pm and there was no one dining in. The other side of the restaurant was full of clutter which is a bit off putting to look at if dining in. Otherwise I would order this again!
Not sure why the lower overall rating - maybe from old reviews since their business has changed over the years. The takeout sushi right now is great. It’s of course not high end sushi but nonetheless still great. I ordered three sets of nigiri and sushi rolls 48 pcs and for what you get for the the price I think it’s best in Markham. There is one other takeout place close by which is a bit more expensive , and that is the only other place I ever order from but since they were closed I gave Syogun a try and I will order again next week. Rice is avg but most importantly the fish is good and they have good rolls. All I want from a sushi takeout restaurant are good rolls, good fish on par with the competition, and overall good quality and portion. Excuse my bad photo, was really hungry!
Amazing quality and price!! Syogun had always been my go to for sushi cravings! Even back in the day when they used to be opened for all you can eat. Right now they are only available for takeout and delivery via the typical partners. I go at least several times a month for takeout, not only are their ingredients fresh, but at amazing value!! Some of their specials include 45 pieces of sashimi, sushi, and maki for only $30!! Definitely a little gem within Markham!
Got a takeout sushi platter and it was decent. Sushi and sashimi seemed fresh and very strong wasabi, which is good. Nothing out of the ordinary. Not amazing but not bad either for a good price. Can't comment on the dine in
Sushi is good and service is usually ok and quick for the past times I've gotten takeout, but I can't say the same for my most recent visit. I placed my order through Instagram DM, and coordinated with Syogun for my pick up time. They told me the earliest is 5:15pm, so I arrived on time, however I had to wait around 15 mins before being greeted nobody at the front cash, and probably a total of 40 mins before I got my order. Several other guests waiting as well, didn't seem like they had been helped either. I thought that Instagram orders received a cash discount from my previous visits, however I paid in cash and still had to pay tax on top. Didn't receive any apology for the long wait either. Please make sure you can have the orders ready on time before confirming my pick up time.
Disappointing experience overall. I came with family and it was just slightly better than take-out from an AYCE Japanese restaurant. They differentiate party platters as cash only, and payment of the meal must be cash or debit. While I can't interfere with how a restaurant runs their accounting, this is annoying for diners. They gave us some uni on the house as well as miso soup, which was nice of them, and hence they got one more star. We ordered some rolls and sashimi - overall, they are fresh enough for a mid-level Japanese restaurant. But really, nothing spectacular. What was more disheartening was the service and overall ambiance of the restaurant. It was dim inside, with half the restaurant closed - literally chairs put on top of tables. The owner/manager was the only server, with the sushi chef behind the table. We had to call twice to get water refilled, and though we ask for the bill, we had to approach the payment counter to complete the transaction. For the many choices in Markham and Richmond Hill, this restaurant would not be my go to.
I have decided to come give this sushi place a try as I see on instagram how nice their sushis are. I don’t usually leave reviews but if it was definitely not an enjoyable meal so I have decided leave a comment. I didn’t had a good experience at all. First, water or tea wasn’t serve when we sat down nor after we ordered food. Tea was served in the end but the cup had a bleach y smell to it. My kids asked for water but anyhow they ended up going up themselves to ask for it. Second, their washroom wasn’t very clean and has a very bad odour to it. We were the first customer to go in as there’s no other tables outside when we arrived. My kids were gaggin in there. We gave them a two star as food was not bad but I think the quality of the salmon was only below average so they shouldn’t be charging 28$ for their Hokkai salmon don. My kids didn’t want to go back there and I don’t think I will recommend it to others.
