We are big fans of Sungiven, but are not fond of this location, in particular. Our go-to is the one at City Square, and we have been to a few other locations as well. We found this location was not as tidy, organized and spacious as other locations. It can be crowded to line up at cashier which was at one of the narrow aisles. Good selling point is the free parking underground, and the decorations during Chinese festivals.
Smaller Sungiven that's harder to navigate through on Sundays, especially when they're giving out free samples, but reliable with at least a few options for almost every Asian cooking ingredient. Deli items are on the expensive side but everything else is standard to lower end. Like always moves fast even with only 2 registers. Free parking is a huge plus that keepse coming back.
When Sungiven Foods on West Broadway opened, I was so happy that I no longer needed to go as far is T&T to shop for Asian groceries. Unlike other supermarkets, Sungiven is small, but they carry most of the popular basic items like produce, meats, and basic condiments and cooking ingredients. I come here every week for the fresh fruits and vegetables. The prices are competitive and the staff is always friendly. What I like most is the fruits and vegetables, which are sold individually, instead of in bulk like in most Asian supermarkets, and priced accordingly, so I know how much I will have to pay exactly. The meats here are good quality too. They also carry a lot of their own brand like Berkshire Pork Collar Slices - the best choice for hot pot or noodle soup.nOn one visit, I bought a bag of dried mushrooms and when I opened it, I was shocked to find them black like charcoal. I have never seen this color in mushrooms, so I brought it back. Even without my receipt, the staff processed the refund. I really hope the owner makes sure their own brand is all good quality, and their business will go a long way.nThere is hand sanitizer at every corner, also provided are gloves and masks at the entrance.nnP.S. I’d like to update my recent experience. During this Spot Prawn season, I bought a few times from them. The packaging was fancy and the prawns were alive, perfect as a gift for friends. I’ll buy from them again next year for sure. Also, a special thanks for their help with my order this year.
Absolutely INSANE fresh seafood once in a while. Had the best mussels of my life, $10 for a massive portion of FAT plump mussels that I cooked in sake. Way better than “fancy” restaurants charging $30+ for stale, tiny seafood.
I was really grateful and impressed by the high-quality customer service here.nnDanish the supervisor remembered what I wanted the soup pork bones and went out of his way to assist me. He also combed through the shelves to help me locate the things I want.nnThis is a really customer-friendly store with so much variety of foods and a crew so committed to what they’re doing.
