Story

Less than an hour outside of Victoria, Sooke Harbour House brings luxury and fun to the scenic west coast of British Columbia. As one of Canada's leading resorts, this charming oasis offers 28 guest rooms, each individually decorated with thought and the finest in amenities. Original artwork, local antiques, and handcrafted furniture are just a few of the things that create such an inviting atmosphere, but it may just be the wood-burning fireplace, jetted tub, and ocean view that truly makes your space a sanctuary. All accommodations are beachfront, with private balconies or terraces, and you may even spot a few of the local seals and otters as you sit and unwind. Take your relaxation to an even deeper state with an in-room spa treatment, where the natural elements of stone, herbs, and ocean are combined to bring you incredible massages and esthetic experiences. At Sooke Harbour House, your time is certain to be well spent.

For a literal taste of the region, Sooke Harbour House's restaurant is a must-do. The highly acclaimed dining venue sources all of its ingredients from a network of local organic growers, and makes the most of seasonal produce and regional plants. Sit down to a dinner menu featuring seafood, natural meats, and pickings from the hotel's own herb and edible flower garden. As the perfect accompaniment, Sooke Harbour House has a wine cellar that houses over 2,000 varieties, with a focus on wines produced in British Columbia - a selection which has garnered a coveted Wine Spectator Grand Award for many years. Spend some time exploring the hotel's unique art gallery, a room filled with pieces from local artists and craftsmen, as you stroll the grounds and gardens enjoying the scenic surroundings. From the verdant forests and meandering paths, the tranquil sea waters and misty morning sunshine, this incredible destination is set beautifully all around you, at Sooke Harbour House.

We expected more for almost $400 per night with all the fees and taxes. The customer service was sub-par, but the room was large and very nice. Our first morning we were awakened at 6:45am by loud thumping, which turned out to be an employee chopping wood outside our room. It was a task that had to be done, but the timing was inappropriately early. The breakfast service was very disappointing as well. The server was apathetic and disengaged to the point of seeming like we were in the way, even though there were only four tables being used and two servers. The meals took over 45 minutes to arrive, with no explanation nor apology; and when they arrived, the orders were mixed up. When we were leaving, the front desk clerk was similarly disengaged, and didn't even smile nor ask how our stay was. Overall, the place looked nice, but the customer service was so poor we won't recommend staying here.

The location is great with an amazing view over the ocean. The food is always great and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It is a little more expensive than most places but you certainly get the experience.

I have so many wonderful things to say about Sooke Harbour House! My husband and I got married at the Totem site on August 5th with reception on the Potlatch room. Jess was fantastic at working with us and arranging the details of the day and making sure everything was as we hoped for plus more! She was of paramount importance to us and it was a perfect day because of her attentiveness. We are eternally grateful! Our guests fell in love with the Harbour House and still haven't stopped taking about how Amazing the food was! Many stating they're unsure how to go back to eating 'regular' food since eating the Sooke Harbour House Chef's mouthwatering and to-die-for dishes! I would've loved the honour of meeting the chef who created our amazing wedding dinner, but got so wrapped up in the magic of the space and the evening I didn't get the chance. My new husband and I just had afternoon tea today in the garden and it was such a beautiful setting and the fresh floral and mint teas from the garden were so wonderful, and again i cannot forget the amazing food! Sooke Harbour House has won both of our hearts as well as those of all our friends and family who attended our big day! In fact my mom and step dad are already planning their next trip to the island with their stay and dining experiences at Sooke Harbour House. We look forward to many more date nights, family gatherings, anniversaries and future vow-renewals at Sooke Harbour House! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I love this place! Its is quaint, elegant and right on the ocean. The food is amazing,(we did the Sunday Brunch) the selection was exceptional, the cheese, meats and baked goods. They had a lovely Halibut and Risotto, roast chicken, salads! The list goes on! The rooms are beautiful with such a cozy cabin feel and such character. Not to mention the place is surrounded by beautiful gardens and flowers, and the interior is laced with all kinds of unique art for purchase.

We have stayed many times for the last 20 yrs. On our most recent stay we recognized that many services that we have enjoyed for all those years are no longer available under new management. The hotel has changed. We are not returning.
