Amazing food and ambience! I was in Tofino when the power was out for 3 days thanks to the bomb cyclone and I was supposed to have my birthday dinner here. So so glad Shelter was open when almost everything else was closed. First time here and the food was among the best I've had on Vancouver Island. Absolutely had to come back for lunch the next day. Cannot recommend this place enough!
My boyfriend and I came on a Tuesday night after hiking all day. This was my second time and his first. We were both floored with the service, food and overall vibe of our visit. The music was nice but not too loud, the temperature was perfect, the aesthetic of the decor was very nice. Our server was amazing. She was personable and friendly with us, but also the tables around us. She brought us our beers quickly, and you could tell she was paying attention to all her guests. The food was delicious we ordered calamari, the beef burger, and the steak & frites. I would return 100%! We even agreed that if there were a place like Shelter close to home, it would become “our spot”.
On my first evening in Tofino I booked a table for dinner at Shelter, as it was only a few minutes walk away from where I was staying The Shoreline which I would also highly recommend. The restaurant is right on the water front, overlooking the bay.nnWe had a fabulous table that made the most of the fantastic view. We started our meal with some Jalapeño Vodka Margaritas which were absolutely superb - and also rather potent. Alongside our drinks we had some Olives & Focaccia Bread, both of which were served warm in the most delicious way.nnFor main course we had their Fish & Chips, which was truly excellent. The batter was light and crispy and really well flavoured, and it came with some delicious sauces, chips and a fresh coleslaw that cut through the richness of the dish.nnI genuinely couldn’t fault anything about the food, it was all perfect. The service was exemplary, our waiter was exceptional - both efficient yet very friendly and welcoming.nnThe food, the service and the setting were all on point, and the whole experience was fantastic. I can confidently recommend a visit to Shelter, but I’d highly suggest booking a table as it’s a very popular place.
I can’t say enough good things about this amazing place! From the second you walk in, it’s hard not to fall in love with Shelter.nnWe had reservations during the blackout and luckily we were able to make it, but we were 2hrs early. The hostess was SO kind and worked a little magic to get us seated right away. Every single staff member was warm, friendly, efficient, and really hustling to ensure everyone is taken care of. We had ordered the dozen oysters to start with, and the kitchen made a very honest and minor error. They went above and beyond to rectify the error and the wait staff was incredible at making light of the situation and we all had a couple laughs.nnThe food is exceptional. After such an amazing first time experience, we ended up going back two more times for lunch. Every visit was consistent. I highly recommend the oysters literally the best I’ve ever had. The halibut, chowder and jalapeño Caesar are also amazing. If you’re in Tofino, definitely stop by the Shelter for some amazing food and some warm feel good Tofino hospitality!
Beautiful spot on the water. Free car charging. Food was delicious. Good portion size. Fresh seafood. Had the calamari, chowder and farmhouse chicken burger. All three exceeded expectations.
