This is essentially pitching a tent in a field, which is exactly what we needed, since the other campgrounds were all full on our last-minute weekend gunks trip. The field is mowed, with a small fire pit and chairs and a nice big flat area for tents. Wally provided starter for a fire and let us know about a place closeby where we could get more firewood if we wanted. No water source and no convenient bathroom may be a turnoff for some, but for the amount of time we were there it didn't matter. Very quiet and private, and very friendly and welcoming. Agree that it was a bit pricey (charged per person), but the convenience to the gunks and to some new local breweries, etc was worth it. Great place for bikers and climbers!

Lovely campsite! I camped here last night to climb in the Gunks and aside from it being quite cold (it was still technically winter), it was great! A little on the pricey side compared to your average campground, but you get way more privacy, a gorgeous fire pit, an awesome view, and the world's nicest host. This would be a perfect choice if you had a big group all camping together -- there's plenty of space for cars and tents, no one nearby to bother with the noise, and even a bunch of chairs around the fire pit. I'll definitely be back, although maybe I'll wait for warmer weather..

Wally provided a beautiful area to go camping. This place is great if your just looking for a place to kick your feet up in relative privacy after a long day in the Gunks. But beware rustic means very rustic. We were located in the middle of a horse field, with several large manure piles in view. The fire pit was 8 cinder blocks crudely formed together and the area was overrun with weeds. After 30 minutes of chopping weeds with my hunting knife, we were in business. Unfortunately, we camped while a wedding party was active up on the hill about 1/3 mile away, so we never got the peace and quiet we had hoped for. The mentioned bathrooms were porta pods set up for the wedding. We were told we cannot use them until the wedding party ended, roughly 1000 pm. The party died down around 1 am. The proposed shower was "in the barn, but it does not have a shower curtain"??? Note, the wedding party bathrooms were in clear view of the "shower" and the pods in high demand at that time of night. We were eventually allowed to use an outdoor shower located on the owners deck. The womenfolk were none too thrilled. Lastly, we were told some firewood would be brought down to the campsite but never was. Then came the matter of paying. Unless camping solo, not worth it.
