This is our favorite campground. The owners are fantastic, friendly and extremely helpful. If you want a natural camping experience next to a great rafting river, this is your spot. Within walking distance to all the local cute shops and really good restaurants. Expect bears which makes the experience even greater, and remember you’re staying at Black Bear after all. We will be staying here all the time next camping season!
This place is very cool and laid back. Stayed here for Halloween. It's right on the river and a 2min walk into town. We woke up to a bunch of snow in the morning and it was awesome!
Beautiful tent sites right on the river. 5 minute walk to Tanbark Trail and less to the beautiful little village Phoenicia go to the pizza place. We had a great stay and Linda and George who own the place are awesome.
The owner George saved our entire camp trip! We had a horrible experience at another campground, and George was able to take in our group super last minute. His campground is laid back, spacious, and right along the water. The views are gorgeous! What started off as a nightmarish trip quickly turned into a fun and relaxing experience thanks to him. He also recommended some great spots for hiking and coffee that were close by. We definitely plan on coming back for future camping trips!
We love this place! This time around we experienced multiple bear visits from multiple bears Incredible camp neighbors and wonderful owners to top off another amazing visit! Thanks guys!
How can I not give this place a 5! This establishment has grown to be my home away from home, and the owners, my family. The Esopus has everything you need, the bear do not disturb you, and this is “soft camping”! Lol They offer bathrooms, showers, sinks, fire rings, whatever your heart desires. It can get busy on the holiday weekends and a little party/crazy… or chill on the off.. privately own, so if you’re looking for a bed lights out at 10 kind of place, sorry, try the state places.. this is designed to accommodate ALL.
Rented my camper to some folks who stayed here. There are only a few non-seasonal spots in the campground but those are the best ones - wooded level spots along the river. The campground is located right in Phoenicia and you can walk anywhere in town from your campsite. That is very rare and Phoenicia is a great little town! Owner George seems like a cool guy and he took good care of our renters who were first-time RVers. They really enjoyed talking to him and it seemed like he could tell quite a few stories! The bathroom and other facilities have definitely seen better days and there are no real amenities but note that this is a campground, not a resort. The price is appropriate given the amazing location. A real gem in the Catskills!
Love this campground The owners are the best people and are so kind and nice. We know when we are there we find the peace we are looking for. The sites on the water are breathtaking. Everyone is always so friendly. We park and can walk into town, so convenient. Rustic campground that makes you enjoy the outdoors the way camping should be.
Very tight campgrounds, on a busy weekend you can hear the people on the tent next to you snoring because of how close to each other the lots are laid out. The creek right next to the campground was the only good thing about this stay, it’s beautiful and very soothing at night once the partying stops and it’s actually quiet. On our first night, music and yelling went on until 3 a.m. and people walked and flashed lights right into our tents up until that time. Definitely not a place mindful of noise and seemed like everybody was just crammed together in a parking lot.
Stayed the weekend on a motorcycle trip. Owner is very friendly and helpful. Nice water front campsites. Bathrooms and showers could be better, but for the price its good enough. Short walk into town has everything you need.
