RBC Royal Bank

I'm not sure when apathy and apologies became more important to RBC than ensuring the excellent customer service I'd always experienced before, but after 33 years, I finally made the decision to leave and take all my business to CIBC. Not only did I give RBC a chance to explain themselves and to improve, but I even contacted several of the top executives to let them know why such a longtime customer would be leaving. Although the apologies and excuses were swift and comprehensive, the actions of the one (yes, just one) individual who contacted me did not change at all. I am incredibly disappointed in RBC and will leave them with a piece of advice my father gave me, something he'd learned from running a very successful business for 50+ years, something I've applied in my teaching career of almost 35 years: "As long as a client will speak to me and is willing to take my call, I know I haven't lost that client yet." Imagine finding out a client is leaving your bank after 33 years; would one of your first statements be, "I know you're leaving us to go to CIBC, so I won't say anything to stop you..."? If I could give zero (0) stars, I would.

Mark Sowerbutts has been a trusted adviser to me and my business for almost four years now. My experience dealing with the commercial banking team at Royal Bank has been exceptional. I have and will continue to recommend friends and clients to RBC for their business banking needs.

I've had issues in the past, to the point where I almost shut my account but I've been banking with them for quite some time so out of loyalty I've stuck around. More recently, I had an appointment and was told I'd hear back within 4 days. I waited a week without a phone call so I called the consultant. Left a voicemail. Waited over the weekend just to find out that he was on vacation. I tried to contact the bank to find out who else I can discuss my finances with while he was away. Had to call 4 times. At one point the man I was speaking with told me he couldn't get a hold of anyone (including the managers) so I should just come into the bank and demand to speak with a manager. I left 4 voice mails with 4 different people in order to get a call back. The manager who I finally spoke with simply told me multiple times that "This is not the way we conduct our business, here at Royal Bank, and I will definitely follow up with my team." I had told my consultant this was a time sensitive subject and now I have even less time to figure out a plan with a different bank due to their lack of communication and organization.
