North/South Lake Campground

Gorgeous lake and terrific hiking year round! I went with my dog, and we walked the entire perimeter of the lake (just over 3 miles). It was beautiful! Even though the campgrounds are closed, the trails are still open and we had good company with other walkers. There’s still a bit of ice and a lot of mud, but most of all, look out for ticks! Best to stay on the cleared trails and/or paved walkways.

Really pretty. Really annoying that most of the roads except one was closed outside of summer. Still worth it, very peaceful. You have to get to where the 2 lakes meet on foot. I guess because it's closed off outside of summer it was very quiet and peaceful when we went.

Not many places this nice left in the World , Once You are here you Never want to Leave! (Update: been stopping by for years to do Review and take photos but was recently told could not come in. not sure if it was because I was on a Motorcycle or the young girl working the gate could understand what I was there for. But is always a shame when all you want to do is help show the world how great a place is and are turned away)

I've been coming here since I was a toddler. Love camping and hiking here. The Catskill Mountain House view is incredible. You will not witness a better sunrise anywhere else.

Sweeping vistas of the Hudson Valley from the former location of the Catskill Mountain House Hotel (1,600 feet above the valley). Park in the "Catskill Mountain House" lot inside North - South Lake Campground. It's less than a 10 minute easy walk to the summit. If you're daring, take the blue trail from the Mountain House (.46 miles) to Boulder Rock for better views (and to get away from the crowds during peak season). The first half of this trail is not for the faint of heart. It's moderate to strenuous over large boulders but well worth the trip. Please keep an eye on the kids as there are no guard rails anywhere and it's a long way down.
