Today my child was invited to come here for a birthday party. She had good time here. But the birthday party was arrange to a non-booked room. The parents of the birthday girl are a little upset.
After reading reviews I was slightly hesitant on signing my daughter up. After her first lesson yesterday, I did not see any safety concerns and could not back any of that up! I was amazed with everything I saw. I paid for my daughter to do private lessons with coach Irina as class times did not work for us. She was super gentle and caring. She celebrated all the accomplishments with my daughter. My girl is 3 months shy of turning 4. She is typically a shy kid but I saw none of that. Class started and ended on time. Despite other groups practicing during my daughters private lesson, there was always room for her at any "Station" and all the other coaches seemed very attentive to the entire group, providing corrections and praises! I would recommend Omega. I am happy to have my daughter attend this gym!
My kid is their customer for the last four years. I can't comment about their instructors skills; they have a number of awards posted on their hall of fame. The important fact for me is the my kid has fun there. I can't stand the stinky air; they have few ceiling fans that are moving the air around but no efficient exhaust or air conditioning system is active or present there. One of the managers told me that socks smell is common in any gymnastics facility
Not sure if the kids and parents fall into the promise of reaching some high performance achievements. The teaching methods appear ok for me, there are lots of kids having fun. I guess that the program is affordable for most people. I can't stand the stinky air inside. I can't breathe that stinky feet type of smell. Not making it up. The manager told me that all the gymnastics places smell that way. There is no air exhaust system in tjere. Just fans blowing the stinky air around.
Signed my 4 year old daughter up in the 4-6 class, and my 6 year old son in the 6-9 class. The 4-6 class for some reason had a 2 year old girl in it that the instructor had to spend half her time babysitting instead of instructing. The 6-9 class from what I could see spent most of their time sitting, or walking slowly around the gym, with the kids just playing on whatever apparatus they happened to be near. Despite the fact that there were only a few classes running, groups were sitting and waiting for other groups to finish on an apparatus, instead of organising so there would be no waiting. There were safety concerns as well: while my daughter was in the foam pit, older kids were jumping off a bar and landing within a few feet of her, while the instructors looked on. One could easily have landed on top of her. In the 6-9 group, kids were allowed to play under the balance beam that was being used. Again, if one had fallen then instead of landing on the mat they would have landed on a child, possibly injuring both. When I went to ask for a refund, I was asked why, and I told them all of the above. I also compared it to the lessons they had taken at the New West Arenex before its collapse, which, despite having 10+ classes running at the same time, was always well organised so that no group was waiting for another to finish, and safety always seemed to be top priority. An older Russian man the owner, I assume told me in no uncertain terms that their club was the best in Vancouver, and that I can't talk about it the way I did. Basically told me to take my refund and get out. Fine by me. We switched to Aviva gymnastics just down the road a few days later, and despite it being a little pricier, the instructors are better, safety is an actual concern, and nobody is sitting around waiting for another group to finish.
I trained here as a child and although this was many years ago I am leaving a review due to how much the experience negatively affected my quality of life over the past 20 years. My coach at the time tricked me into trying a dismount that I wasn't ready for by saying, "this time bend your knees" and of course I rotated in the air which I wasn't expecting, straightened out, and fell from the high bar onto my neck. When I was on my hands and knees saying I couldn't breath, she responded, "if you couldn't breath you wouldn't be able to talk". This incident was handled so unprofessionally with zero appropriate medical response. I was basically told to walk it off and the incident was minimized when my parents came to pick me up. Weeks later when still complaining about pain I was diagnosed with soft tissue damage and sent to physiotherapy. To this day I suffer from debilitating chronic neck/back pain and migraines that started immediately after this injury.
Great place for kids. Also a good class for adults. Ramona was very good at pointing out small details in technique that made a big difference. The smelly sock scent has been there in every gymnastics place I've tried.
My granddaughter was enrolled in this academy for 4 years, since the age of 3. In April of this year I informed Kat that my granddaughter felt that she was being bullied. I sent Kat a polite email relaying the message that my granddaughter, who is now 7, did not want to return to Omega at all. The email that I received back was very nasty and threatening. Instead of inquiring as to my granddaughter's well being SHE STATED THAT SHE HERSELF - KAT - NEEDED TO BE YELLING at my granddaughter. As soon as she confessed that SHE WAS THE BULLY I informed her that my granddaughter will no longer be attending Omega and to please return the postdated cheques. KAT MANAGED TO TURN A LITTLE GIRL'S LOVE OF THE SPORT INTO ABSOLUTE TRAUMA. Kat has to this date not apologized for her behaviour nor her nasty emails, but instead tried to cash the remaining cheques and then forward them to a credit bureau. She is not satisfied that I allowed the cheque for the month of May to be cashed as a 30 day notice. Because of Kat, my granddaughter has not, nor wants to, step foot in another gymnastics academy.
I trained here all the way up till 1999 , I dropped by a few times to try the drop in s . I was happily suprized to see some of the same coaches. Great place to go for the kids birthday party.
