Reviews
The Manitoba Legislative Building is genuinely extraordinary—an ornate, neoclassical masterpiece filled with symbolism, intricate details, and architectural flourishes that you’d never recognize without someone explaining them. From the Greek busts to the Medusa carving meant to “freeze” partisan thinking and encourage open-mindedness, the entire building is layered with meaning. It’s the kind of place where every corner holds a small secret.nnMy guide, Claire, was exceptional. She knew the building inside and out—its history, its mythology, its art, and its political context. She offered thoughtful, precise explanations about everything from the former and current monarchs’ portraits to the restored statue atop the dome and even the strange story of the missing pillars. She welcomed every question with enthusiasm and clearly loved what she was doing, which made the experience richer.nnOne of the highlights was sitting in the public gallery and watching Parliament in session, seeing debates unfold in real time and even spotting the Premier. That wasn’t just memorable—it felt genuinely special.nnThis tour ended up being one of the best experiences of my time in Winnipeg. It’s free, but you do need to know the tour times in advance. I happened to walk in just as one was starting and was extremely lucky to join.nnAbsolutely worth visiting—beautiful, historic, surprising, and engaging from start to finish.
Holiday Open House at the Manitoba LegislaturennI absolutely loved it! It was a high-quality event and such a special experience. The only downside was waiting outside in –25°C during the security check, but once inside, everything was wonderful. There were children singing Christmas carols, and you could really appreciate the beautiful architecture of the building of 1920, the artwork, and the historic offices and furnitures.nnOne of my favourite parts was being able to speak directly with the Ministers. Each office offered a warm welcome with drinks and snacks, creating a very friendly environment. It was truly charming, and I highly recommend attending next year, go prepared to speak and share ideas with the different Ministers.nnIt was especially memorable to meet Minister Uzoma Asagwara, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and truly took time with each person. The building was packed, so definitely arrive early!nnI totally recommend it! Is magical and meaningful holiday experience, definitely one of my best event experiences in Winnipeg.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting on a Saturday afternoon in mid-July and was pleasantly surprised to find that we lucked into a tour. The grounds were pretty deserted of any humanity, yet the foyer of building was buzzing with, like, 3 security guards per tourist. Anyway, despite it being a weekend, grateful the building was open, allowing us to explore this architectural gem.nnThe 45-minute tour was incredibly thorough, providing a deep dive into the building's fascinating history. We learned about the intriguing scandal associated with its construction, the origins of the stone and marble, and the rich symbolism behind the numerous sculptures and reliefs. This building truly stands as a temple to Parliamentary democracy, and the attention to detail in its design is captivating.nnOverall, the experience was enlightening and memorable, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, architecture, or politics. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this tour is a must-see for a deeper understanding of Manitoba's heritage and governance.
This review is for the building and the tour. The tour is detailed and easy to understand. Building is incredible. Tour only is a few times per week. Check schedule.
Definitely beautiful place. It's great experience this tour
