The Legislative Assembly building in Victoria is absolutely stunning, both inside and out. The architecture is grand and detailed, with a beautiful mix of stonework, domes, and historic charm. The surrounding grounds are just as impressive, with colorful flower beds, manicured lawns, and sculptures scattered throughout. It’s a great place for a relaxed walk or some photos, especially in the spring and summer.nThey also offer free guided tours inside the building, which are really well done , you learn a lot about BC’s history and get to see some gorgeous interior spaces like the main chamber. At night, the whole building lights up, and it looks even more magical.
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, located in Victoria, is a stunning architectural landmark that offers visitors a glimpse into the province's political heritage. The building's design, crafted by the same architect who designed the Empress Hotel at the age of 25, is both impressive and historically significant.nnVisitors can explore the beautifully manicured gardens surrounding the building, providing a serene environment to relax and appreciate the surroundings.nnInside, the rotunda area is particularly captivating, featuring hand-painted walls, designer glass windows, and ceilings that showcase the building's rich history. Informational displays throughout the interior offer insights into the legislative process and the building's history. You can enter the building free of charge when the assembly is not in session access is limited to select areas on the first and second floors.nnParking can be tricky at busy times. There is a paid parking space southwest side of the building.nnOverall, the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is a must-visit destination for those interested in architecture, history, and the political landscape of the province while visiting Victoria.
A little known aspect of the legislative assembly grounds is the statuary adorning the rear of the building. A map of all the figures explaining who they are can be seen just near the fountain. There are both statues, reflecting historically important figures to British Columbia, as well as 12 medallion carvings representing the arts e.g. Homer. Additionally, the architecture is striking and looks best when hit by sun dappled by trees upon the grounds. Tours of the interior are available.
Had a wonderful visit during Spring Break, even though the members were on break so no question period.nOur tour guide was super informative and funny. We had such a blast seeing the historical building and getting a glimpse of 'the room where it happens'. We made reservations and had lunch in the Legislative Dining Room which was a fantastic meal!!
The architecture here is gorgeous, and for a small amount of money you can purchase a ticket and get a tour of the interior of the building once you've passed through security. There are guided tours inside that provide very detailed descriptions. There are plenty of parking lots around the area, so once you parked the car and it would only take a few minutes walk to the plaza in front of the building. After touring the interior of the building, you can also take a look around the front plaza to soak up the cozy atmosphere.
