The nursing line gives you a lecture on being respectful. Yesterday I was told my bloodwork wasn’t that bad for someone with cancer? Then she proceeded to question everything I said including a comment “do you even take your temperature?” She had decided I had covid even though i had no fever, clear mucus, no runny nose or cough. I left the conversation feeling even worse. It is about time that you remind your staff of their oath to do no harm.
I’ve been receiving treatment here for the last few months and I have found the staff to be professional, caring, and take as much time as you need to solve problems.nnI’ve been treated for a rare form of cancer that has been stubborn and difficult to treat. Throughout the process they’ve worked as a team to solve the problems as they arise, explain what is going on thoroughly, and support me with information and counselling.nnAny cancer is a complex disease to treat, but I have a lot of trust in the team here and I feel lucky that I’m receiving treatment here.
Pray you never have to use this place, but if you do be prepared for a bumpy ride. There is very little coordination and things get missed often. You will have a cancer care team they call it. All that means is everyone plays hot potato and no one takes accountability. You'll hardly ever see the same nurse twice, the information they asked you about last time won't be in your file. Doctors will forget to put orders in, send you for tests/care in the main hospital not BC Cancer, and those staff will not have received word, and don't know what to do with you. Trying to get prescriptions filled is like herding cats. There are labour shortages everywhere. It really sucks to see it in a life saving situation.
First there in 2004. Sadly, came back in 2022. Great, positive improvements! Staff always smiling and very sincere. So sad to see the center OVERFLOWING with chemo patients... everywhere!!!
Dr. Gagnon and the care givers at the Victoria Cancer Clinic made my recent chemotherapy treatments a very positive experience. I couldn’t have asked for more. They are truly amazing and I will never forget your tenderness, love and care.
