It was a little hard to find the entrance as you have to walk down a set of stairs underground. The prices were reasonable. We know we are partly paying for the experience and the novelty of having the food cooked in front of you. Good place to go with a group of friends as you sit together. If you don’t have a full table you will likely be seated with strangers which can turn out great, bad or neither. We liked the sauces they gave you for the meat and the veggies. The chef was entertaining and lively. Food was good but I wouldn’t say great but like I said, you are going more for the experience. It’s not a place I’d go often but maybe for special occasions of for entertaining groups of friends. Would recommend. I had ordered the 6 oz steak and it was plenty. One of us ordered a side of prawns, 2 sides of mushrooms and scallops and the 3 of us shared them. Be prepared to leave really full.
We couldn’t believe the Google review that is 4.4 because it doesn’t match the reputation. We had a great day until we came to this restaurant. We ordered a premium combo, which includes steak, scallops, and prawns. We were informed that prawn wasn’t available, so we had to downgrade to shrimp with extra scallop. The smelly and sour fillet steak . The service, humm, hard to communicate with the waitress. Here is our experience with the restaurant manager: We asked about the quality/freshness of the fillet steak as we tasted sour. The manager came and STRONGLY SUGGESTED to eat again with their “freshly cooked” fillet. We said no about four times. But eventually, she expected our feedback. She said, “We trust our customers.” This time, with their freshly cooked fillet, not only does it taste sour, but it tastes bitter! We feel sick after trying it, but she continues to recommend it to us. After hearing our opinion, she said, “all chief tried it and they found it fine. Is it because you haven’t tasted any fillet steak before?” Oh my god. Can you believe it? The restaurant manager tells you that is because you haven’t tried it before, that’s why the smelly fillet tastes sour and bitter. We feel that we were treated like we don’t know much. She even said that the majority of Asians order New York steak only, that’s why it could be UNIQUE to us. Eventually, we paid full price + 15% off. Oh, the fillet was an extra order. Not very fair.
Haven’t been there since I was young, but went there again tonight for my brother’s birthday, and it was it amazing! He ordered the wagyu which was to die for, but honestly everything was great. The salad, the soup, the vegetables… THE SAUCES!!! It was all amazing and such a great experience with our hilarious cook. Will absolutely be coming back!
My favourite restaurant in Victoria. The food quality is just so superior to most restaurants that we keep returning. The cooking show and service is icing on the cake Food: 5/5
7:30pm resoWent here for my sons 13th birthday dinner. Was expecting a show with a fire onion tower but we really just got some rude/sarcasm adult kinda funny but my young children were confused. Food was OK. Doesn’t compare to KOBE in Vancouver whatsoever. Likely won’t be back here. Maybe our chef was having an off day or wanted to go home? Won’t be back.
We went last night for my daughter's birthday and everything was excellent. The food was very good and our cook, Andrew, was quite entertaining. He really made our experience enjoyable. I felt bad for the people that shared our table because our group was pretty lively and talkative but I guess that's the chance you take with this style of dining. Everything was very tasty and the dipping sauces were a perfect addition to the meats, rice and shrimps. We brought a birthday cake with us and the staff served it after dinner and sang, played drums and even took a photo of our group which they gave us in a cardboard frame to take home. A very nice evening all around, especially if you're celebrating a special occasion.
Wonderful sauces, complete dinner with all courses included. We had combos so we were able to try everything. Nice and fresh.
Great food, our cook had his own jokes and showed us the Japanese choo choo train lol. Food was great, ambience is also great. Wheelchair accessibility is great too as they have an elevator for people who can't make the trek down the stairs. Tea is the Yamamoto tea, very close to barley but more smoother. Steak and chicken cooked to perfection.
Incredible experience!!! Amazing food... Amazing atmosphere. Highly recommend!Food: 5/5
