I honestly think 3 stars is really generous. I had high hopes based on the past reviews, but its not that good. You need to make a reservation since it's not that big, and the service is slow and indifferent at best. I think we waited for more than 45 minutes for our food and it didn't arrive at the same time. Im thinking take out orders were given priority. The sushi was fine, but the rice was cold. The salmon and new york steak teriyaki were also just okay and served almost western style. The beef noddle soup was bland and didnt taste like anything. Honestly, there are better Japanese restaurants nearby, so please avoid this one.
The staff was all nice and it was super busy when we walked in. The food was good, especially the vegetable tempura, but even after the restaurant was no longer busy it took way longer than it should have to get our sushi. There was almost a 45 minute gap between our tempura and the sushi. Besides that everything else was great.
My work colleague rants and raves of this place all the time and had been bugging me to go all these months. I finally did somewhat reluctantly; I had a one-time unpleasant experience eating here with my dad when I was 16 my older daughter is currently this age just to give you a time stamp and had bad diarrhea afterwards, nearly missing my first Young Drivers appointment back in the day. ‍ Food quality is okay. The sashimi is fresh but not that huge deal that it melts in your mouth and you must go here now that I read in other reviews. As you can see, the presentation for their large assorted sashimi is very lacking; 15 pieces yes, but of very limited type and for the price? Not a good value to the eye of a sashimi connoisseur. My beef teriyaki was overcooked. They asked how I liked it done, I replied medium rare, but dish was medium borderline well done. Service was there but quite slow; we were given the bill but took a very, very long time for them to come back for the POS. I mean, why bring the bill if you're not ready to accept payment right then and there, and made to wait? ‍ No stomach upset this visit which is a plus but even ordering their two biggest entrees, I left the place hungry still and underwhelmed. I feel this place is overhyped, would only go back here with accompaniment, and would most likely order something completely else on the menu. ‍ Parking: Your best deal for parking is using Broughton St or Yates St parkade, try to use the 1 hour free spot if possible & walk over for anytime before 6pm. Otherwise expect to pay for street parking in general. Wheelchair accessibility: Door entrance is not really wheelchair accessible and will require assistance to get in.
I’ve reviewed Ebizo previously and just wanted to update. This place is still the BEST place on Vancouver Island for sushi and tataki! Great staff and atmosphere.
Different owner, all the goods are gone. The server lied to us when he didn't have a kind of beer we ordered. He brought a different beer to us without saying anything. We ordered another beer from a different lady, and she just said the beer was not what we ordered because the one we ordered was sold out. Anyways, Even apart from this, I really see this place is not as same as a few years ago anymore. The food changed completely. I rather get sushi from a supermarket. It's really sad because it used to be my favourite sushi place in town.
I went and ordered a chirashi don. It was $25, and the portion size was extortionate. Not only that, but the actual fish itself was sour, old and had no taste. It was clear that the fish was frozen, it was ice cold and still wet. The shrimp was sour, and my stomach still feels weird some hours after eating. I believe the only reason this place is open is because of the tourists. Best bet is to go to Sen Sushi.
Food for 6: $400ish includes alcohol Pros: easy to find, paid parkade close by, menu selection is your typical sushi place. Service was fast. Prices are fair. Cons: cooked kitchen dishes came out late into the meal. Food for thought: this restaurant has serve the local neighborhood well. It has a fan following and gets busy fast. Reservation is recommended or come early.
Clean and small place to eat. Staffs looked professional at what they are doing. The shrimp tempura was great. Crispy outside and soft inside. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. I got the beef and shrimp teriyaki but it was barely anything.. it tasted good but 20 dollars for that the photo is quite overpriced I think.
It did not meet our expectations. This is not the perfect place for soup, it taste like water with soya sauce. Needs improvement with the quality of food with very small serving. Great service tho.Food: 3/5
Absolutely by far hands down no questions asked the best sushi restaurant in North America. If in Victoria you must try it. Nothing compares. Salmon rolls are awesome. The dynamite and Cali rolls are works of art. This stuff belongs in a museum. Long time customer, 10+ years and the quality has always been superb with friendly hosts. If you don't reserve, expect a wait. It is still worth it. Even in the rain. Don't claim to be a sushi expert but I have eaten in some of the more famous places in the bigger cities and none could compare. It is that good.
