About

Looking for a place where you can walk miles of trails among towering trees or discover what Southeastern Michigan used to look like, visit Indian Springs.

Story

If you are looking for a quick getaway, a place where you can walk miles of trails among towering trees or discover what Southeastern Michigan used to look like, head for Indian Springs Metropark. Get an intimate look at the area’s native ecosystems at the Environmental Discovery Center, or hike trails meandering the headwaters of the Huron River, an area virtually untouched by human hands. Located nine miles northwest of Pontiac, the park encompasses more than 2,215 acres of wooded wetlands and rolling meadows. The diverse habitats provide a natural sanctuary for a wide range of wildlife. If you are lucky, you may spy a red fox running across the restored prairieland or even hear coyotes howling at trains passing nearby. Observe a captivating wildflower display from April through June.

Indian Springs Metropark also hosts a variety of recreation including an 18-hole regulation golf course, the Environmental Discovery Center with an underwater pond viewing room, a paved hike-bike trail, scenic picnic areas, volleyball and horshoe pits. In the summertime, kids can cool off at the Spray ’n’ Play spray grounds with the Adventure Maze, rock-climbing wall and a tot lot. In the winter, cross country-ski nearly 12 miles of trails or bring your sled and try the hill in the Meadowlark Picnic Area.

The event room at Indian Springs Metropark’s Environmental Discovery Center is a stunning venue for your next party or banquet. Entertain guests in a beautiful, 200-capacity room overlooking a pond and open meadows.

Very nice park. The splash pad is fun in the summer and is a great way to cool off after a bike ride. The "dome" inside the nature center is very cool, too. Most recently, we visited for a maple sugaring tour. Our guide, Jill, was very knowledgeable about the process and about the history of maple sugaring and how the Native Americans did it. Only 4 stars because I think the $10 for a day pass to enter is too expensive, especially when paying for a tour in addition.

Took engagement photos here. Park is very quiet and the exhibit house was fun. There are some fun exibits to see while hiking the trails. Great place to come year round and see the different plants in bloom.

Wonderful place to visit in the winter if you're looking for a peaceful adventure. Walking/Jogging trails along with some ski-only trails are plenty. Absolutely visit the beautiful Environmental Discovery Center building. There's a dreamy viewing area that lets you explore the pond through a series of viewing portals and a wonderful glass hall walks you under and into the pond.
