The staff were polite, but that’s the only positive I can honestly give. This hotel’s listing is incredibly misleading for something rated nearly four stars.nnYou cannot park at the hotel. They send you to public lots a 5–7 minute walk away, and you have to pay for them yourself. We had to haul our bags through an area with many tents and homelessness. and nothing on the website prepares you for that.nnThe neighbourhood around the hotel is rough, very active, and absolutely not somewhere most people would feel comfortable walking, day or night. We booked this place because it was advertised as being “close to everything,” but we didn’t even feel safe enough to leave the hotel once we arrived. Our plans for a nice dinner out turned into ordering food in our room because neither of us felt comfortable stepping outside.nnIf the hotel was honest about the parking situation and the reality of the area, people could make an informed choice. As it is, the description feels deceptive, and I would never recommend this place to families or anyone unfamiliar with the city.nnI really wish I had read a straightforward review like this before booking. I highly recommend you look elsewhere for a hotel.
I stayed at this hotel for work in Novemeber of 2025. Rooms were nice, clean and large. Each evening my room was reset. Breakfast was excellent. Full spread each morning with fresh fruit, cereal, oats, pancake machine, etc. Hit the spot each day with an over and above continental. Only downside was the pool was closed for renovations, but it did not impact my stay. 5 stars across the board for a week of travel.
Clean rooms and location. Everything from the parking garage to the hallways were spotless. The room we had was spacious and super clean. Seems HIE has a great theme no matter where in the world. I’ve stayed in Bangkok to Ottawa and the rooms are always clean and they have the best pillows! Check in was seconds and staff were very professional and friendly. Breakfast was standard for a hotel buffet. Great stay and will continue to stay with this chain
Hotel was very good with large modern room, very clean, and a hearty hot breakfast included. It's outside the downtown core, but only about a 20 or 25 minute walk away. About 5 minutes walk to ByWard Market which is great. Neighbourd is rugged so perhaps not ideal for families or general tourists, but I was very pleased with my stay there.
I recently returned from a 2 night stay....nPros: Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, included breakfast and decent gym.nCons: Perhaps the biggest con was the location. It was definitely in a rough part of town. I could view skid row literally from my room window. There were no shops or restaurants within walking distance. Thank goodness for Uber Eats!. If you are coming as a tourist with children, which I was, I wouldn't recommend mostly due to the location. If you are coming for business, or just plan to spend a night or 2 in your room, it's perfectly acceptable. The other con was the pool... My Son was looking forward to it. However, as soon as we walked into the pool area our eyes started to burn from the chlorine. I get it, that it has to be chlorinated due to many people swimming in it, but it was overwhelming. Also, the water was murky and it was very small. However, we did swim in it, and actually didn't feel well the next day.
