Heisei Mart is far from my house but I go here often because they have lots of products that are hard to find elsewhere. For example, dango mochi rice balls on skewers is difficult to get in Toronto but Heisei Mart sells several flavours of them, such as matcha with red bean, mitarashi sweet soy sauce, and black sesame. The rice balls have a really nice chewy texture and all of the flavours are delicious but my favourite is mitarashi; I always buy a tray of it when I'm at the store. Heisei Mart sells lots of other authentic Japanese groceries as well, including kiri mochi, Kewpie mayonnaise, umeboshi, sushi rice, and daifuku. Additionally, they have a selection of prepared Japanese meals such as bento boxes, karaage, sushi, and omurice. They also sell traditional style Japanese dishes, cups and home decor. Lastly, the cashiers are friendly and quick. Overall this store is a hidden gem for authentic Japanese goods.
2022 February 4 Small, cozy and quaint. This Japanese supermarket is located inside J-Town and is no doubtably one of the anchor stores. A lot of Japanese products, though mainly packaged groceries. Certain items have a good variety. If you're seeing Hojicha, there's a good selection. There is a bit of fresh products though primarily cooked foods. Very close to the highway for easy access. Free parking in the area. Close to highway with stores and restaurants near by. Worth the visit.
Great place to browse different Japanese cuisine, and small shops. There are items you can only find at shops here, and not at big brand shops.
We made a special trip to vist this store to buy the Japanese plums and other neat items. We love this store for some Japanese items. The store is clean and staffs are very friendly and helpful.
EDIT: Heisei Mart continues to be a lovely gem offering plenty of Japanese food, homeware, snacks and more. It looks like there's a food stall/restaurant that has opened up too. Clean and organized as usual. ****** Clean and organized Japanese market with mostly imported Japanese ingredients and snacks. A bit on the pricy side but you'll find a lot specialty items here. They have some prepared foods like onigiri, mochi, and Bento boxes too. Covid protocols are being followed strictly so you'll likely have to line up.
Smaller than I recall of the prior location. Pretty limited selection, ie only two kinds of natto. Still a rare Japanese grocery store worth visiting.
Clean and organized. They always mop the floor and keep it clean. The meat selection is rather limited, and very mediocre quality. If you are looking for better meat quality, go to Famu next door. They have a section of discounted items that are expiring soon, near the cashier.
Great place for Japanese groceries. While a good chunk of their selection is available at bigger Asian groceries you'll get more variety here for some items, particularly snacks. And some high end Japanese products like rice and sesame oil. Keep in mind those things are priced accordingly. They have a wide selection of prepared foods here too which are quite good and not too expensive. Keep an eye out for the better dashi stocks. They have both the powdered stuff and premade bags of dried fish and seaweed. They even have fancier powdered versions that are flavoured like the smoked bonito flakes.
Amazing little grocery store for Japanese food and snacks! They moved from the original location to across in the opposite building. Looks like there will be a cafe and not sure if the bakery and meat department will love but everything is still easily accessible. Coming here with an empty or full stomach is not a good idea as there are a lot of snacks that you can’t get anywhere else! That’s one of the reasons I love coming here. Also an abundance of drinks and most likely something for everyone. Definitely give this a shot and visit J- town to take a look for yourselves.
Heisei is now newly renovated and moved right across the old unit. It's more spacious than before and now has several small isles acommon to most supermarkets. Still the same great Japanese products as usual. Staff are very friendly.
