The five stars are for my coach Keenan who I have been training with for the past 5 months. Training with him has been an awesome experience. He is very knowledgeable and has a great personality. Keenan built a plan according to my needs and fitness goals, helped me deal and work around some specific mobility issues and limitations, and the progress has been very noticeable. I always look forward to my training days with him as during each session I learn something new, get challenged with new exercises while also having a lot of fun training.nnThat said, the gym itself is not the favourite I have been to - some equipments are old and rusted t-bar row, some don’t work properly seated pulldown machines though there are some renovations going on so hopefully they will address the state of equipment as well. The staff are very nice and friendly and generally there is a community vibe going on at the gym which is nice.
Albert Phan has been my personal trainer for three years, and he’s exceptional. I am a busy mom running my own business. He keeps me accountable and my head on track. He kept me motivated through the pandemic, pushing me to achieve my fitness goals. Albert is a true professional—knowledgeable, sincere, and tough. His expertise shines, especially as a Can Fit Pro natural contest medalist. He tailors workouts for any fitness level, making them challenging yet achievable. I’ve seen significant progress thanks to his guidance and support. If you’re looking for a trainer who is committed, motivating, and knows his stuff, I highly recommend Albert.
Incredibly unprofessional behaviour from Jennifer. I came to the facility with my girlfriend who is a GoodLife member, asking if we could simply use the restroom. Jennifer replied with a rude and dismissive attitude that I would have to fill out a waiver form as if I would’ve drowned from using a urinal. I declined and waited outside instead - I really wasn’t in the mood to be receiving spam calls to sign up for an overpriced gym.nIt gets better don’t worry… while waiting outside, I overheard another couple entering the facility, just to go use the bathroom as well what are the odds!. Upon being greeted by Jennifer with a big smile on her face, she let both of them in, despite only the one person having a GoodLife membership and their friend squeezing behind them.nI then entered the gym again to confront this preferential and unfair treatment, to which she was rolling her eyes and laughing. There’s really nothing humorous about what can be perceived as prejudicial behaviour. Very disappointed in you, Jennifer.
Went into GoodLife today to check it out and get a trial workout in before signing up. I currently workout at another gym in the area. Even though this gym is half the distance, I don’t think I would return. The staff were nice, but that’s pretty much as good as it gets. The equipment is way overdue for an update. Not enough spray bottles to wipe equipment down. Literally saw ONE out of 20/25 people wipe down their area after finishing within the hour I was there. The worst part of the entire experience was the smell. It was literally unbearable. Could have something to do with having ZERO ceiling fans in the gym. Saw one fan in a corner angled upwards for ventilation. Halfway through the workout, my partner refused to sit on any of the equipment and continue. When you go to a gym and are concerned with catching a bacterial infection instead of being focused on the workout - there’s a huge problem. It was so bad it was almost comical. How in the world does a manager walk into that specific gym everyday and think “this is a good standard/look/smell for the brand”. It’s unreal.nI really wanted to like this gym because of the convenience and location but it didn’t workout that way. Would much rather drive the 20 minutes to another gym before paying nearly $80 a month to workout in that cesspool.
The location is great. It's very close to Pape Station so it's easily accessible if you're using public transit. And the bike lanes on Danforth Avenue make cycling to this club easy as well. The main gym floor is quite large, spacious and well ventilated. There are plenty of machines, racks, benches and dumbbells, though given the size and area of club, it can get pretty crowded. The overall layout is a bit unusual because this location used to be a theater, but I find it overall charming. The lockers need a little work when it comes to ventilation, but they're otherwise kept tidy.nnIn all honesty though, what makes this club special is the staff. I have made friends and acquaintances with the general and coaching staff, and everyone polite, friendly and helpful. Personally, I have had the pleasure of training with one of the coaches, Albert Phan, for several years. He's a well prepared, knowledgeable and driven when it comes to helping his clients get to his fitness goals. Not only that, but he's a teacher. Albert has made sure that I understand how every exercise works, how it benefits me, and how to make the best of it. He is always ready to go the extra mile as well, helping me with my nutrition and giving lifestyle advice to maximize my results. Albert also keeps himself updated and is always learning new ways to help his clients, and make every workout better. He has a no-nonsense attitude when it comes to helping me get results, but is always accommodating and understanding. I have found himself a great teacher and friend. If you want to train with a fantastic coach, I highly recommend Albert.
