Funky cafe on the corner with people of all walks of life coming in and out. We came here to test out their vegan options and they didn’t disappoint. Breakfast sandwich had vegan eggs and sausage, packed between a fluffy ciabatta bun. The sandwich was a mouthful to say the least that will keep you filled for a while. Western scrambler was my favourite, it tasted just as good as it looked. The tofu scramble was packed with veggies, and the tomato balanced everything perfectly. Not too much sauce and also a very generous portion, but not so heavy that you leave feeling lethargic. As for the coffee, it was pretty average, wouldn’t say it was anything special. Overall, this is a cozy place to check out for great vegan eats. Price is reasonable, generous portions and large selection of vegan items. They also had festive drinks
Fern consistently delivers 10/10 for friendliness, cleanliness, food variety, punctuality, and flavour. I have NEVER been disappointed in anything I've ordered. Within my first couple visits years ago, they remembered my name - which is so homey, and definitely adds to the experience! It's always difficult to decide what to order - so my husband and I always choose 2 separate hot meals so we can taste both, and 2-4 pastries The portions are HUGE, and easily 2 meals - so the pastries also huge are always saved for later. I usually bring my stroller inside while dining in, and the seating has ample room to accommodate, so we don't have to go sit outside or in the car to enjoy a hot meal. A friend of mine is gluten free, and said she's had no problem with Fern substituting items in order to accommodate her preferences. My omnivore friends don't believe me when I tell them that yes, everything you're eating is definitely 100% vegan. Thanks so much for always being a welcoming environment, and for such delicious food! It's so lovely to go somewhere and know without a doubt you're not accidentally being served non-vegan food. Thank you!!
Decided to give this place a try looking at the reviews and turned out the reviews were 100% accurate. My customer service experience here was top notch! The staff were friendly and helpful hosts! My order was ready pretty quick despite how busy they were. The "chickun" was crispy on the outside and juicy inside! If I could make vegan food this good I would turn vegan instantly!!! The pancakes were light and super fluffy! I also ordered a mocha with oat milk which tasted delicious!! Looking forward to next time!! So. Freaking. Good. I stopped by for lunch with a girlfriend of mine who is a regular and did not leave disappointed! As someone who doesn’t eat meat for moral reasons, one of the things I missed most was a good chicken sandwich, and man I found it. I think this may sway my non-vegan hubby as well slowly but surely! The texture bang on and flavour was delicious. I had a side of Caesar salad, which was crunchy and tasty as well. Not to mention the brownie and latte for desert, drool. The owner clearly takes such pride in creating and serving delicious, ethical food options and considering the price of good ingredients, and portion size it’s good value. I will be back soon, and can’t wait to try more of the menu.
When I first moved here to Vic I think every single person recommended me to check out Fern! I haven’t been back since they opened their indoor dining but their take-away service at their window was super efficient and covid-friendly! It was my last morning with the rental car and happened to be in the neighbourhood. The staff was pleasant and accommodating, filling my water in my own bottle. I saw this same tactic repeated for people who order coffee in their own mug. This is encouraging to a sustainable future. I ordered the tofu breakfast sandwich, knowing that there is not a single bad item on the menu. The sandwich was delicious and filling. The side potatoes were a welcomed complement to the significant sandwich. Admittedly, the vegan butter tart was pure indulgence. Appreciating a long time classic. Fern Bakery is worth stopping at if you are in Fernwood. In fact, if you are anywhere on the island, you should fit Fern Bakery into your trip.
Best vegan burger I ever ate in my life. All the options are incredibly good. My favorite is the fire burger. They also have other invincible foods like the jack fruit bbq poutine! Vegetarian options: All the options are vegannnnnn!!
My favorite restaurant in Victoria and one of the best all vegan restaurants I've been to period!!. The menu food items are incredible and the baked goods are so so so good you won't even believe that they're vegan! My favorite thing is the jackfruit poutine and the jalapeno rolls. One time they had Boston cream donuts that made me want to cry because they were so good! Definitely my go to spot to bring people when visiting the island. Don't hesitate to run here as fast as you can!!!
OK I’m addicted, went in to try a cinnamon bun and couldn’t resist the Maple Rhubarb scone. Both delicious but the scone was literally the BEST I have had, so soft! On my last visit got to try the chocolate cranberry scone.. again so soft and so good. Can’t wait for my next visit!!
10/10 would go again. Got the breakfast scramble, potatoes were fire. Partner got big breakfast sandwich, and as an omni liked it a lot. Coffees were bomb Staff had the good good vibes, and read my mind on the sweetness level of my mocha, Home made whip was straight crack, not overly sweet, just velvety goodness Caesar was p good too TY
