We've been members of Direct Buy for a very long time and there's no question that we have greatly benefited over the years. Everyone we've dealt with has always been very helpful but one special mention has to be made with respect to Tanya Willson. She was the first person we met when we first jointed and she's remained focused on achieving excellent customer service and being a very professional and pleasant person to deal with no matter how many questions she gets!
Tanya Willson is the best! She helped me design and pick out all my window treatments for a brand new 4 bedroom house, and has helped me order many other things while browsing in the store. I've spent hours in there scouring the binders. Lots of products at amazing prices.
Always a pleasure to work with Tanya Wilson at DirectBuy Ottawa. She is very knowledgeable with all the products that come with custom blinds, furniture, finishes, etc. She offers great suggestions that are very practical and add that finishing touch to the product itself. She is quick at responding any questions or inquiries and will go the extra step and contact the vendor if she doesn't already have the answer. Always a great experience!
DirectBuy charges a substantial membership fee and offers little in return. In fact, because of the issues we ran into, going through DirectBuy actually ended up costing us more than if we had bought through other stores, not to mention the additional stress and the weeks it took to resolve our issues. We purchased an expensive Cook Top by Bosch for our new home. Unfortunately, it arrived defective - this was confirmed by the manufacturer who advised us to contact DirectBuy to resolve the issue. We were expecting to be able to exchange it as we would be able to at any other store - even Walmart and probably the dollar store would let you exchange an item that was defective right out of the box! Unfortunately, DirectBuy refused to offer any help - they washed their hands of the whole thing and said we need to resolve it directly with the manufacturer Bosch. It took us several weeks to get the issue resolved through the manufacturer and at no point did DirectBuy provide any support or concern. After we had resolved the issue directly with Bosch, we started getting emails from DirectBuy as if the issue had been resolved due to DirectBuy’s efforts. On top of this, initially when we purchased all our appliances, the sales representative had all the appliances delivered to the DirectBuy warehouse and we had to pay several hundred dollars to arrange delivery to our house. For example, we had to pay $400.00 to get the KitchenAid fridge delivered from the DirectBuy warehouse to our home. We later found out that this particular manufacturer KitchenAid offers free delivery to the member’s home address, but at no point did DirectBuy advise us of this. If they were really trying to provide a decent level of customer service, they would have advised us of this option since it is obvious that this would be most people's choice. They offered a kitchen design service that we paid $250 for. When we received the design, it simply looked like a stacking of boxes and looked terrible, so we had to get it re-designed elsewhere. We then decided to buy from the other designer because of the excellent service that they had provided. For the membership fee we paid, we expected great customer service and that they would take customer satisfaction seriously. Unfortunately, their lack of customer service and competence ended up costing us significant time and money and we would never consider going through DirectBuy again. We have already decided that we will not renew our membership with DirectBuy.
Ordered my window treatments with Tanya Willson through DirectBuy-Ottawa. She was so helpful, super patient and she provided me a lot of good advice. She helped me to make great choice. I’ve really appreciated my time with her during the process and she was always available to answer all my question after! Thank you very much Tanya, you were amazing!
I thought I would never be back at DirectBuy! However, a couple of years ago, I received a phone call from one of the membership directors inviting me to renew my membership. When I expressed my feelings and my decision of never be back again, I was told that new owners were making things differently and, if I had still some pending projects, it would be to my advantage to at least visit the "new place". I decided to follow the advice and am very happy I did. I was introduced to the new owners Frank and Sue Porreca. Frank showed me around...it was indeed a new place. Not only it was much more inviting than before, they moved the service desk from behind the building to the front, meaning they consider the members as a priority, but also I could feel now that all the personnel have a different attitude towards the member. Everyone I have had the opportunity to ask for help, has shown an especial interest to help and satisfy my inquiries. I have dealt with Adam, Sam and Simon at the front desk; Kylie at the blinds department, Tanya at the flooring department and every one has demonstrated ownership of the situation and when for some reason I needed something more, out of their level of decision making, Sharron, the manager, was always there, willing to be part of the solution not part of the problem. Things have changed a great deal with the new owners! I have completely renovated my kitchen, cabinetry as well as appliances; changed the flooring in all the first floor, both ceramic as well as solid wood and have saved lots of money. I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped me at the club but did not mention before, not because I didn't want to, but because I could not recall all their names in the kitchen department and even at the warehouse, whom have been so helpful at loading my truck. Thank you so much to everyone and all at DirectBuy Ottawa and continue improving in benefit of the members! Obviously this new attitude permeates to the team from the owners! I have been a member with direct buy since 1999, In the first order l made back my membership fee. Over the years l can honestly say that l was able to purchase top of the line furniture and appliances at a fraction of the cost that l otherwise would not of been able to purchase. I would of had to settle for a lesser valued item. Recently, l had a problem with an appliance I placed a call to Lindsey at DB and she took quick care of the situation. She spoke with Frank who is now the Head of this amazing place and within half an hour he personally called me and reassured that they would deal with the issue for me. This saved me alot of stress. I have too say that DB stands behind their clients and go out of their way to make sure you are 100% satisfied and that you are getting the big savings on the best of the best items. I have referred many friends and family to become members over the years, especially if your moving to a new home or cottage. If you need to purchase window coverings, to appliances, just the savings there is worth the membership cost. Even if you don't like the catalog shopping, you will have the help of amazing staff who pleasantly assist you. The staff are good people. With Covid going on restrictions are in full effect and it took 8 months to get our order.. but with what's going on in the world it's not this branches fault. We are fine with the delay, living room set is finally here!
We became members in 2004 we are now into our second membership with Direct Buy. Since that time we have renovated 3 homes and fully built the one we are in now. Direct Buy has been with us all the way. The move from the location on Shefford initially made the Club a little less convenient to where we were living at the time, but the newest version of the club has a great feel and flow. Nicely laid out and comfortable, it is a nice place to shop. We just wanted to say thank you for our most recent experience in the Club. We have always had great service and support by the team at the Ottawa DB and our most recent purchase was right up to standard. Angella H in kitchens agreed to meet with us on short notice to discuss our cabinet needs. We are not doing a kitchen but a unique wall of cabinets in our bedroom as well as custom cabinets around a fireplace DB of course and into the new bathroom will also be DB. Angella wanted to ensure we could get our order done while a special sale was still being offered by our vendor of choice. Numerous versions and changes were conducted quickly and efficiently. Angela listened and responded like a true professional. The result was fantastic. We received our order a couple of weeks ahead of the estimated date, the product was exactly what we had envisioned, the one problem a door damaged on shipping has been resent to the manufacturer for replacement with a simple call to the DB team. Once again folks, nicely done. We are very happy with our membership and our decision to renew again! Steve and Kelli
I have made a three large purchases of binds and window coverings over the past few years and it is always a pleasure dealing with Tanya Wilson. Tanya really knows her products, makes helpful suggestions, and is incredibly patient with me. I believe I could drive anyone nuts and Tanya is always attentive and provides answers to all my inane questions. What a delight it is to deal with Tanya.
