My girlfriend and I stayed there for a wedding and we were extremely pleased with the location! It was walking distance to a lot of things in downtown providence and not far at all driving around the city. When we checked in, Monique helped us and really made sure our stay was great, we are so grateful for her help! The room was nice, clean, and spacious. We would look into staying here again if we planned another trip to Providence!
During September this is an excellent place to stay! Right next to PVDFest and Waterfire. Can easily take a bus to Newport and it was the cute trolley themed one. Steps away from the mall. The only issue are some of the people at the bus hub but that is unavoidable.
Terrible experience, not worth the Marriott price tag and did not live up to Marriott standards in the least.nnThe hotel looks very old and not well-maintained. The room we were given was dingy, and the bathroom had a distinct smell to it. We asked to exchange rooms and the staff claimed to be “fully booked up”.nnHousekeeping is provided only upon request. We asked for housekeeping on the third day of our stay- informed front desk the night before and then reminded on the day of- and yet they did not honor our request, claiming housekeeping must have forgotten to clean our room.nnThey are lacking basic amenities such as providing toothbrushes and drinking water. There’s a singular drinking water fountain on the 1st floor, which was not functional. Even the face napkins by the sink were musty and yellowed.nnThe last night of our stay, the toilet flush stopped functioning around midnight. At this point they miraculously had another room available for us to move to, but only after a lot of miscommunication amongst the staff where in they had us move to the wrong room first and then a third one. They couldn’t give us a fresh spare blanket so we had to go and get one from our old room.nnThe location is not the best either, this hotel is located away from the main downtown area so there aren’t a lot of places to eat nearby, except the local mall. It felt very unsafe, especially at night.nnWhen we complained about our experience to the front desk, they literally said we got a terrible room and they had no idea why that room was ever filled. We provided all these details to the manager and never got a response.nnThis was supposed to be a getaway, which ended up being more trouble than it’s worth. Honestly, probably my most stressful vacation. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
For $275/night, the experience was somehow worse than a motel. The bathroom was one of the dingiest I have ever seen. An extremely offensive mildew smell, yellowing fixtures, weird lighting, no washbasin inside the bathroom and no ventilation. The bathtub was partly clogged so you needed to shower in standing water- gross.nnThey only offer housekeeping if you inform them a night before. We did that and even called at 1pm next day to let them know that housekeeping hadn’t come yet. Even then when we returned to our room at midnight, our room hadn’t been done up. When we complained about this, they lied to us saying there were no rooms they could move us to.nnAn hour later, at 1am, to add to the bathroom woes, the toilet flush stopped working. When we complained about this, they magically had rooms to move us to at that point. Even then, there was a lot of miscommunication between the person taking us to the new room and the front desk person. We were first taken to the wrong room and then asked to move again.nnMost of the times no one would pick up the intercom call to front desk so most of our communication had to be done by walking down to the front desk adding to the long list of inconveniences.nnWe were told their manager would reach out to us to talk to us about our negative experience and I’m still waiting 2 weeks later to hear from any staff.nnThe location isn’t great either. We felt quite unsafe in the surrounding area. Not many places to eat around in a walking distance except for some mall restaurants.
There is much to like about this Marriott Courtyard for a night or two; friendly staff, it’s clean, in a good location, a comfortable bed and a reasonable price for a downtown hotel. But there are also areas that are in need of improvement; a musty mildew smell in the bathroom, ripped curtain in the bedroom, breakfast not included and an overall a need for an update of the entire guest rooms.nSo if you don’t need a five star upscale hotel, Marriott Courtyard is a good choice to consider.
