all the staff are behind the bar, and open a small 10 inch windows for exchange document. The visa requirements is not clearly published on the website, has to go back and forth several time to get it done.
I was kind of shocked to see so many one-star reviews and negative comments toward this place. I've been there a couple of times myself over these years, to renew my Chinese passport etc. Every time I visited, the staff there were friendly, and got the job done efficiently. Also, in early 2020, the consulate contacted the Chinese students under the age of 18 one-by-one via phone and email to ask if they needed any assistence, including flight reservations to China amid a time when pretty much all flights were cancelled. I chose to stay in Canada, while most of my friends chose to book a flight back home. Moreover, the consulate offered free COVID care kits to everyone who visited in 2020, including masks etc, when all shops in the GTA were running out of masks. So yea, this is definitely one of my go-to places when I encounter any problem.
I had something urgent so I made my appointment via email. I got my new passport on the 18th day. The reason why they're late to answer your emails is they're actually still working even after 5 pm at night which few Canadians will do. Be kind to one another and you'll get whatever you want in time. Thank the staff and I appreciate your service from a mainland Chinese.
I applied for the renewal of my son's passport on July 17th. I couldn't get any appointment after calling and emailing thousand times. I was told we are launching an app in first week of September so apply there.I did apply there and they asked for old passport in the last week of September. I shipped them old passport and envelope for the new one right away. today is October 26th and we got flights booked for October 29th to attend my brother's wedding. I am calling and emailing them everyday but no one is answering the phone and no replies on the email. I'll really appreciate if sb can assist me here. thanks
Diligent staff worked on travel green code approvals at late night, super helpful over emails, very much appreciated!
Just to share a touching story of how the China consulate in Toronto helped me out in an emergency. My father was sick in China and I applied for a visa. I was moved as I wasn’t charged the application fee. I thought I got everything ready and flew to the Vancouver airport. Not until then did I realize that my COVID testing result had to be assessed by the Toronto consulate as required by the airline. It happened to be on Sunday and the airplane was going to take off in less an hour. I dialed the consulate emergency help line and the person who received the phone call acted in an amazingly fast manner. He made an arrangement and had it done just in time. In the process, I dialed the number again and again to check the progress and he was very patient every time. I deeply appreciate the effort of all the people involved in the process. Great services. Thanks to you all. Wish you all the best.
Had an issue with travel document expiring during the pandemic. The consulate office processed my case and the new document arrived within three weeks. This is amazing considering the backlog and general delay in almost all lines of business. Thank you!
I would give less than one star if I had the option to do so. To be fair, the staffs' attitude towards customers has improved compared to 7 years ago, when I first visited the consulate general for a passport renewal. At least, nobody was rude to each other during my recent 2017 passport renewal experience. However, the service quality and efficiency remain so low that could just drive everyone crazy. For example, I was asked to pick up my passport at 2PM. I was on time, but when I got to the place, there was already a huge line-up more than 50 customers with only ONE service window open. Yet, there was no "manager" or anyone that we can talk about this unhappy customer experience to. I guess that since it is the government place, so Chinese cannot bring their honest feedback forward with 100% confidence that our feedback would be taken? However, I hope this can change soon, because we all deserve respects and efficient service. Customers' time is just as valuable as staffs'.
If giving no star is an option, that would be great! They don’t deserve any star. There is no proper instruction on what to bring in term of legal documents. With no cell phone allowed inside the property, we have to keep coming outside to send them an email with our missing document or go home and get it then can come back. After lining up from 1-5 counter to collecting all the proper documents then all 5 lines will go to counter 7. The math doesn’t add up here. 5 lines of people go to 1 line. This is ridiculous, there are 30-40 people lining of at counter 7 and moving extremely slow. Plus there is no air conditioning available! For a government service, this is a huge disappointment! I hope someone from the upper level will read all these reviews and consider to improve the quality of the service for their citizens in Canada!!
The scam calls are from impersonators, not from the consulate itself. But they need to start recognizing overseas Chinese as Chinese people, or China is gonna get wrecked. Think about your country's future. China's come a long way; don't ruin it by being so petty
