I used to go to a different branch for my banking needs, but I stopped by this one once and was really impressed. The staff here are very patient and helpful. They were able to resolve an issue I had been going to different banks for months trying to fix. This branch also has an ATM and a convenient drive-through ATM.
My wife and I visited a CIBC branch on February 6, 2026, at approximately 9:30 AM when the branch opened, to address a serious security and scamming-related matter.nnWe were initially greeted by a bank employee who took us to her office to discuss our concern. Early in the conversation, based on what my wife explained had occurred, the employee requested to verify my wife’s identification, which was promptly provided.nnAfter reviewing my wife’s ID, the employee’s demeanor noticeably changed. It became apparent that she recognized my wife as an immigrant, at which point she gave my wife an awkward, judgmental stare that lasted several seconds. She then asked my wife how long she had been in Canada, using the same strange and uncomfortable tone. This line of questioning, combined with her demeanor, immediately made both of us feel uneasy, as it felt unnecessary and inappropriate given the situation.nnFollowing this, the employee stood up and took my wife’s identification to another area of the bank while we were still seated in the office, without clearly explaining why this was necessary or what was being done. This further added to our discomfort and concern, especially since we were already there due to a security-related issue.nnAnother major concern was the handling of my wife’s banking information. When updates were being made to her account, the employee failed to properly verify the information she was entering. We only discovered this afterward, which is extremely concerning given the sensitive nature of banking and the fact that this visit was specifically related to a scam and potential account compromise. This lack of verification reflects poor attention to detail and raises serious concerns about internal security.nnDuring this same interaction, the employee stated that keeping funds in an investment account is “safer” than keeping money in a chequing or savings account. Instead of focusing on the actual issue at hand, she insisted on steering the conversation in this direction. This was not our concern. Our primary concern was determining whether my wife’s savings account had been compromised as a result of the initial scam. This concern was not clearly addressed, and the focus was redirected to an unrelated suggestion, which felt dismissive and inappropriate given the seriousness of the situation.nnOverall, this experience left us feeling disrespected, uncomfortable, and unsupported. Customers dealing with potential fraud or security threats should feel reassured, treated with professionalism, and supported without judgment—regardless of background or immigration status. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. This incident has caused us to seriously question our trust in CIBC and whether it is the right institution for our banking needs moving forward.
Mixed opinions with respect to this branch or bank as such. Enormous waiting time as they seem to be Really Slow!! Lethargic Staff :nnThere are indeed good ones in the staff like ‘Wisvini’ who have always been helpful in multiple occasions of me visiting the branch. At the same time, I have witnessed customers losing their cool over the really slow service in the tellers as well.nnThere are 5 tellers and 3 bank ATMs within this branch. The deposit box is on the left wall to the door of entry.nnThere is indeed ample parking for the bank’s customers.nnThere is a line for the customers and it’s always advisable to have a prior booking if you are in for a meeting with a financial advisor.
CIBC Markham and Shepherd branch is now with new look and branch was better organized for better service. But I had a bad experience this evening around 4:45 pm. I was trying to tell something to the lady at reception Rose and before I finish my sentence, she started to tell me the solution. I was trying quite few times, she never allowed me to finish. Of course she knows banking better than me, but without listening my problem, giving me a solution was not acceptable to me. Even she was not telling the right answer of my problem. But not allowing me to tell my problem and giving me a solution is not at all acceptable at customer service. Branch should appoint someone who has more experience and patience to deal with customers.
Poor service. Very unprofessional with customer service but asks for good reviews!! Never have seen in any other CIBC branches in my last 17 years experience.
