Great, but busy place. There is outdoor seating when I went during the summer, but also more indoor seating further inside by the bathroom. Fan inside makes it a little loud, but overall good. Some tables are designated non-working table. Servers are very polite and friendly. Recommend Matcha Limo
The BEST Café in Montreal, point blank period.nnCafe Alphabet is an absolute gem tucked away in the Mile End neighborhood of Montreal, which is such a cozy and vibrant area filled with cafés and character. I came here while visiting Montreal from Toronto this summer, and I can honestly say if I lived in Mile End I would come here every single day. This café had been on my list for a long time after I kept seeing it all over social media, especially because of their viral pink freddo. The barista was kind enough to explain that the drink is seasonal and will be brought back around Valentine’s Day and again in October, which makes me even more excited to return in the future.nnGetting here is simple and convenient. From downtown Montreal you can take the STM Orange Line to Laurier Station and it is just a short walk from there. Once you arrive, you step into a beautiful space that feels modern yet cozy. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside on benches, which makes it a welcoming place whether you want to relax with friends, enjoy some quiet time, or even bring your family along. I took a look and I believe there may have been a kids’ menu if I was not mistaken, but I definitely noticed kids’ drinks. I think this is such a thoughtful and considerate detail because many cafés I have been to do not prioritize children and are not very family friendly, so shout out to Cafe Alphabet for including that.nnThe staff truly made the experience even more memorable. The female barista who prepared my freddo was incredibly kind and even let me film her pouring it, which was such a special moment for me. The freddo itself was light, creamy, and delicious. This was also my very first time trying Greek coffee, and it was wonderful to learn more about its origins. The café is run by a family with Greek heritage, and I really appreciated being able to support a business that carries such a rich cultural background. As someone who loves matcha and makes a point of trying it everywhere I go, I can say with confidence that the matcha here is outstanding. It was high quality, earthy, smooth, and absolutely delicious.nnAnother thing that stood out to me was how affordable it was compared to many other places that sell specialty drinks. I ordered two matcha freddos for $14.95, which I felt was very reasonable and honestly quite normal these days. It was refreshing to enjoy such high quality drinks in a beautiful setting without feeling like I was overspending.nnOne of the highlights of my visit was meeting Steve, the father of the owners. He was incredibly warm, welcoming, and gracious. He took the time to chat with both my dad and me, and you could feel his pride in the café and in his sons who have built something so wonderful. Cafe Alphabet is also a generational family business that began with their uncles, and now the next generation is carrying it forward with passion and care. Seeing that family history and pride reflected in the space makes the café feel even more meaningful. Meeting Steve was such a kind and memorable experience that added so much to our visit, and I truly hope I get to meet his sons next time.nnCafe Alphabet is so much more than just a café. It is a place that radiates warmth, hospitality, and community. The drinks are not only delicious but thoughtfully prepared, the space is beautiful and comfortable, and the people are genuine and welcoming. I am very grateful that I had the chance to experience it during my time in Montreal, and I know I will miss it dearly when I am back home in Toronto. I look forward to coming back on my next trip, and I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you to Cafe Alphabet for such a memorable and wonderful experience.
What can I say...nI flew in from Athens Greece on the afternoon of April 12th and have come by here every day since for a daily incredible experience and of course delightful goodies!nFrom Molly's incredible Flat White to Costa's incredible honey sweetened hot Matcha Latte, to Catherine's very beautiful/ welcoming smile at the cash register and Tony's the founder impeccable hospitality, I already know I'm going to profoundly miss this place and it's loving energy when I return to Greece next week. God bless this place and the beautiful people in it, FOREVER!!!
I came into café alphabet expecting to experience one of the best’s coffee shops in Montreal. I was a little disappointed, sadly.nnWe ordered two matcha lattes with oat milk and one hot Freddo coffee as well as two biscotti, one almond cookie and one salt chocolate chip cookie.nnI didn’t enjoy the matcha lattes. As soon as I tasted the matcha I knew it was camellia sinensis. Then I turned around and guess what they were selling… camellia sinensis matcha. I feel like it tasted cheap and powdery or dry. It wasn’t creamy. I would recommend for them to try the matcha from Monsieur thé or @Matcha for a richer matcha menu. The camellia one is very underwhelming in my opinion. Both drinks weren’t really hot , they were leaning more towards ambient temperature/cold which surprised me since I saw them doing it in front of me.nnThe Freddo coffee which they are famous for was alright. The grains they use have an actually enjoyable and distinct taste. The coffee was good and the taste was particular to them. Sadly I didn’t feel like the foam was foamy enough, the minute I started sipping it disintegrated, and it didn’t really add to the overall taste of the coffee. It felt like a normal latte. I honestly would like to try their latte and see if I could taste the difference between the two.nnThe cookies were alright. I didn’t enjoy the chocolate chip and salt one, I felt like the chocolate chips they used weren’t dark enough so the salt overpowered the cookie and it ended up tasting like a butter and salt cookie instead. The almond cookie and the biscotti were good.nnThe music was a bit loud and the coffee shop was pretty packed even tho we came in the afternoon. It didn’t feel like a comfortable ambiance. Not really a place to relax or have a calm conversation after a walk. It felt like a New York coffee shop.nnThe service was pretty good, the guys were smiling and explaining the menu to us even though there was people waiting in line, which I appreciated.nnOverall I wasn’t surprised and I don’t think this is a coffee shop for everyone.
We tried their signature drinks, the Fredo Matcha and Fredo Cappuccino and both were fantastic. The matcha was smooth and perfectly balanced, and the cappuccino had a bold, rich taste with a slightly sour note, likely from 100% Arabica beans. The café was quite busy, but it had a warm, lively vibe and the staff were super friendly and efficient. We also loved the little detail, they gave us the café’s stickers, which was such a fun and thoughtful touch.
