Buena Vista

It’s one of the very few Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood of Lakeview. They have been there for nearly 20 years and are a local favorite. It’s a small, family-owned restaurant, but the food they offer is authentic and delicious. Do yourself a favor and order the tres leches cake! They make it in house multiple times a week due to high demand.

What a lovely place with delicious food! We had tacos, pozole, tamale. Everything was absolutely delicious. It's an authentic with a family restaurant vibe. Wonderful and friendly staff and service. Definitely my go to for Mexican food in the area.

Buena Vista was our favorite spot while living in Lakeview East. Their burrito and tacos are fantastic and their price is great. I highly recommend!

Just stopped into Buena Vista for the second time to try out their taco Tuesday and was blow away. The homemade tortillas were soft, warm, and delicate but held together perfectly. The barbacoa and pastor were both flavorful and juicy with good portions of each. I was particularly impressed with the accompanying salsas which both tasted fantastic and added a great kick to the tacos. My side of rice was also very tasty. It only took about 5 minutes for my food to be ready and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be making this a weekly routine and look forward to next Tuesday already.

There’s not many Mexican places in a very white area like Lakeview, so I decided to check this one out. The service was great, and the lady at the register was very kind. However, the food was extremely lacking. I ordered the tamale dinner and was pretty dissatisfied with how it tasted. The tamales were very soggy, and I felt like the rice could’ve had more flavor. The tamales themselves were not bad, but definitely not good enough for me to come again. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you’re familiar with Mexican cuisine; it does not hold up to the hundreds of other Mexican places in Chicago.

Stopped in for Taco Tuesday $2.75 tacos from 5pm-9pm and had tacos el pastor, the nachos, and then the tres leches cake. The tacos were perfectly portioned and slightly sweet with the tortilla, it was a great texture. Instant love. The nachos were evenly distributed but the guacamole was really the star. The cake was perfect and you should definitely stop here!

Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city thus far. I've been here multiple times now more than I can count and I've enjoyed it every time. The servers are very friendly and the food is outstanding and delicious for the price you pay. I love the BYOB policy - I usually bring some XX or Corona, which is the perfect accompaniment to the food here. My go-to is either the Mini Chimichangas or the Quesadillas - both really good. I also love the Queso Fundido with chorizo as well as the guacamole and fajitas. The placemats are great - you can learn some Spanish while you wait on your food although not much since the food comes out so quickly!. The actual restaurant is very small though, but I've never had too long of a wait. They take reservations! The outside seating on the sidewalk is my favorite though when the weather is nice. With the combination of the quality and speed of service, the food, the price, and the BYOB policy, I recommend Buena Vista to everyone!

I had the shrimp nachos & shrimp was bland & they didn’t make it crispy like I asked. The pico was great which made the nachos taste better. The sauces were watered down & lacked heat + flavor. The horchata was decent, just a little bit too watery. The service was A1 though. She served the entire restaurant by herself & did awesome, which is y I gave 3 stars. The reviews can b misleading so u’ll just have to find out for urself. I only eat seafood so I wouldn’t return here based on how the shrimp tasted.
