Update: we had a great experience re-visiting this place recently. Customer service was awesome. The owner even gave us the mango yuzu croissant when we were leaving the coffee was rich and had a nice fragrance.nIt is a cozy and well decorated place, parking can be a bit hard to find. I'm looking forward to trying other items next time.
The last two times I’ve bought mochi bun was at the Japan market, and yesterday at their cafe… and the bun’s dough had this weird after taste when I ate it both times. I thought it was just a one off, but it seems to me that the quality of food product has declined. The off-putting taste was like a mixture of freezer burn, old fridge smell, and a heavy unpleasant herbal scent from their cafe. Filling was limited, I only got the Vietnamese coffee mochi filling at the bottom of the bun. I used to enjoy this cafe more when it was called Baker and Table. I mean, the staff/customer service has always been cold and indifferent. I didn’t care as much about that when the food was good. The worker was friendlier than what I expected on my last visit, it was a nice surprise but disappointing that I have to write about this experience. I couldn’t finish my bun and had to throw the rest away. I suffered a painful stomach ache for hours for the remainder of the evening yesterday.
Tried out this cafe for the Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival and gotta say, was not disappointed at all! Super cute concepts, clean and bright interior. The hot chocolate flavours were tasty and each came with a sweet treat, some featuring adorable characters. Also tried the vegan lemongrass chicken bahnmi and it was quite good, very strong flavour!
Cute cafe, the items look adorable.nUnfortunately, the taste is not what I expected. Which is based on my own misconception, leading to disappointment. I thought mochi buns and mochi croissant meant that they used mochi powder and combined it with the flour to make the texture of the pastries chewy. That is definitely not the case. The dough is normal, slightly below average for what a regular bun and croissant texture would be, then they added a couple spoonfuls of mochi inside the pastries. Not my preference and not what I’m used to with what it is named. Would not recommend.
Visited for their hot chocolate festival but have tried their melon pans before. First one I got was temptation tango. I don't like coffee but it was surprising good maybe because I love dark chocolate and coconut. The first part of the drink the coffee was super strong but then I got to the chocolate and it was good. Very hot though so wait for it to cool. I also like that you are given an option to the dessert you want so I got matcha tiramisu and it was delicious! Loved that there was red bean as well, wasn't too sweet and I would definitely eat that again.nnThe next time I went I got takeaway so it doesn't look as pretty but still was yummy. I got the love potion and I really enjoyed the lychee flavor. It is not a common flavor people use here so I haven't had lychee in so long but it was great to go back to the flavors that I used to consume. The rose was a nice touch and actually had rose petals and a bud in it but I wasn't too sure of eating it though. I got the kerropi melon pan which was pandan flavored and that was also really yummy. Love how all the melon pans are cute characters. Wanted to try hidden charm but I didn't get to :nnFriendly and helpful staff. Cute cafe with seating, wifi and music which makes a great place to chill. I have been here before the hot chocolate festival and I will certainly be back after because they have wonderful food. Will have to try some savory stuff next time.
