Our beers are hand crafted in small batches using the finest ingredients, traditional brewing methods and passion to bring you the best possible beer we can…

Beer is like food… the better the ingredients the better the beer. We take pride in sourcing the best possible ingredients from around the world and from our own back yard. Malts from Canada, England and Germany have been hand pick to produce a strong base in our brews. Hops, like grapes, are influenced by the territory, so if a beer style calls for hops from Germany we get hops from Germany. We love our ingredients so much we are planting our very own Hop yard at the Phillips Farm in Manotick, there we will grow specialty hops exclusively for our local brews. Our heritage yeast is housed in a special yeast laboratory to ensure the consistency and freshness of our brews. Our water is double filtered and boiled to give us a “clean slate”, and to finish it off we adjust the natural flavor compounds in the water to suit our various beer styles.

We use time honored and perfected brewing traditions that have been passed down from brewmaster to brewmaster for centuries. These methods are steeped in artisan spirit and have the precision of science. Using these methods, with our state of the art brewing system allows us to produce hand crafted beers that are pure, free of added chemicals and preservatives, full of flavor and rich in character.

Big Rig Kitchen & Brewery - Iris is a place you can count on for a consistently good experience. The setting is comfortable and inviting, ideal for a casual evening out, catching a game, or enjoying a relaxed family meal. The menu delivers across the board — juicy burgers, well-seasoned wings that aren’t greasy, and classic pub dishes done properly. Portions are generous, everything arrives fresh and nicely presented, and it’s clear the kitchen pays attention to quality. Their house-brewed beers are a standout, offering a range from light and crisp to rich and full-bodied, with staff who know the menu and give solid recommendations. Even during busy times, service remains friendly and efficient without feeling rushed. Overall, it’s a reliable Ottawa favorite for good food, great beer, and an easygoing atmosphere — I’d definitely go back.
We had a great lunch! Pizza was Awesome! Tasted as good as it looked! We had the Med. Big Rig Special....swapped out mushrooms for extra green olives. It was Amazing.....very filling. They have a nice big patio. I highly recommend! Cheers!!!
Could you please take a look at this? Are fries like this normally served to customers? They were completely burnt.nWe were told that patio seating is only available if we order a drink. So I ordered a Coke, but then I was told that only beverages served in a glass from the menu qualify for patio seating.nI don’t really understand this policy. I still paid and even left a tip—why wouldn’t that be enough?nIs this really how customers are supposed to be treated?
I was really disappointed with our visit to Big Rig tonight. I actually went specifically because I was looking forward to their avocado salad, only to find out that they have changed their menu and removed it.nnI completely understand that Big Rig isn’t a restaurant that focuses on salads or “health food,” and I wouldn’t expect it to be. However, I do think there should still be a few options for people who are looking for something lighter or are more health-conscious. Right now, there are only two salads—a Caesar and a Cobb—both of which focus on creamy dressing and/or blue cheese. Looking through the rest of the menu, almost everything seemed to be deep fried, buttered, or quite heavy. We actually ended up leaving without ordering because I genuinely couldn’t find anything I wanted to eat. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a sit-down restaurant before and been unable to find even one lighter option.nnI do want to say that our server was wonderful. When we explained why we were leaving, she was incredibly understanding and said she completely agreed with our feedback. She shared that staff have also brought the lack of lighter options to management’s attention, but were told, “Fall is coming.” Her response was basically what I was thinking too—people still want the option of having a healthier salad regardless of the season. Not everyone wants a Caesar or Cobb.nnI really hope management listens to both their customers and their staff and considers bringing back the avocado salad, or at least adding a few fresh, lighter options to the menu. We have enjoyed Big Rig in the past, but with the current menu, unfortunately there just wasn’t anything for me to order.
Really enjoyed our dinner here. We did the all dress pizza and a poutine to share. The poutine wad huge and just like the real thing you get in Montreal. The pizza was also quite good lots of cheese and sauce was good. Service was also great. Only downside for me is that they have Coke instead of Pepsi!
