Interesting place for dessert and baked goods. Picked up an assortment of muffins - black sesame, espresso, milk tea and apple. Also picked up a bunny bun. All of them were nice but not extraordinary. Do give them a shot if you are in the area, they have a lot of options but it is not worth the travel from downtown to Markham.
I've been to J-Town so many times over the last decade, and I finally bought something from their bakery. If you buy six buns, there's no tax. Also, it's 5¢ for a bag, so remember to bring a reusable bag. There is a good amount of selection, so come early for the good ones. Aside from buns, there are also hot sandwiches and cakes.
I love going to Bakery Nakamura because they have so many different desserts, including some Japanese ones that are hard to find elsewhere in Toronto, such as melon bread, chestnut roll cake, fruit sandwiches and mochi muffins. Every time that I go to Bakery Nakamura, it reminds me of the bakeries I've seen in anime. All of the desserts that I've bought from here were fresh and tasted delicious. The prices are affordable and the service is good. I recommend this bakery!
This is the place I go for my asian toast bread, wide selection and can ask to have it sliced in the width I want. Cakes and donuts are freshly made every day, my favorite are blackforest cake seasonal, donut filled with lemon custard. If you don't speak Japanese, best is ordering in person, to avoid your order lost in translation.
My wife and I decided to drop into J Town and pick up some items at the Nakamura Bakery after Dim Sum at New Century Restaurant down the street on Steeles at the New Century Plaza. I have heard many good things regarding this "boulangerie and patisserie". Their french baking methods are clearly on display with their items. And they even have Tonkatsu bento boxes. I must be in heaven. The bread is fresh, pillowy and crunchy all at once. You can also have your bread sliced in your desired thickness. The assortment of cakes, banana bread, danishes, custard donuts etc.... if you are ON any type of food DIET...then you need to AVOID this place at all cost. Because you will definitely buy something here and enjoy it !!! The cakes were wonderful, not to sweet but light and airy. The banana bread was packed with flavourful and moist. This place will hit all the chords for you I am sure. Please give them a whirl and then let us all know what you think.
I got their 7-inch green tea red bean cake for a birthday and it was delicious! Ordering on the phone was a bit of a pain as the employee didn't seem to know anything about the cakes/prices. I would go back however to try their other cakes/pastries!
A cute Japanese bakery in Jtown has plenty of bread, buns and cakes to choose from. My favourite is the tofu cheesecake which can be bought by the slice or as a whole depending how hungry you're feeling, or the occasion. They've also introduced little pop-ups here so you'll find some savory options made by the restaurant across the bakery Tanuki. MOFU is another vendor that has a small section in the bakery, mostly in their fridge section next to Tanuki's products. There's fruit sandos, mousse, melon pan sandos and also moffins mochi muffins. We tried the black sesame melon pan sando and they really didn't hold back on the black sesame! It was so nutty and fragrant, the strawberry really added a nice sweetness and freshness to it. The sugar on the top added some nice texture too. We also got a strawberry mousse. It was nice a light. You could mix it for a more consistent biteful or eat it as is. There was a thin layer of strawberry jam as some fresh cut strawberries which were all very sweet and tasty. It helped balance out the tang of the yogurt mousse. I'd come back to try some of their other unique offerings such as the yakisoba bun and ready to eat foods from Tanuki if I need something on the go.
Love the cute and delicious bakeries! They also have mont blanc cakes!
Such a humble Japanese bakery in Markham. My go-to bakery to get a French or white toast when I’m the area. Also their pastries and sandwiches, especially their chicken katsu are delicious.
This place is one of my favorites. It's located in the same unit as Famu, and I can't go to one without going to the other. The shokupan bread is the best I've had, and comes in a huge loaf. Lots of delicious pastries and breads to try, and very good prices!
