Most of the care is good. MRI & X-rays are fairly quick. I haven't experience issues in this department. Usually everything is done through the community care and they send me to Wilkes-barre for imaging or specialists. Facility is clean. But their Mental health department is a joke. They will send a text message to confirm your appointment then immediately cancel it has happened more than 5 times within the last year. The front desk staff rarely pick up the phone. There was an instance where one of the employees tried to transfer us to them directly, and admitted they refused to pick up the phone. My wife and I have had to escalate this to patient advocacy several times. You would think that the care and attention would be at least semi-decent when dealing with mental health issues. But it seems like their system is designed for you to suffer more and not get help. Either the phone never stops ringing so you cant leave a voicemail or when you FINALLY get an appoint, it will be cancelled without your consent. You'll just get a text message at 3 in the morning saying its cancelled. Their patient advocacy isnt too competent either. They will address the issue with you, but without speaking to the other department, 200 excuses will be made on their behalf. So you can already tell the strong bias and little care some of these employees have. If you need mental/behavioral health, just go through VA choice and find a private provider. I would not recommend Wilkes-Barre VA for mental health to even my worst enemy. It will only result in delays, disappointment and frustration.
Horrible experience. Moved back from Florida and work in PA during the weak and stay here. I made an appointment with VA to get my form signed by my Doctor. Horrible way they treat you. Berate you on the phone and basically dont want to help you. They make it essentially impossible to get form signed. I guess the doctors are no competent enough so they basically make it impossible to deal with them. This is not first time with bad experience here. Miserable place to go. Dr Mansuri was the doctor who of course would not get on the phone.
Horrid. Nightmare. Stay away. Beware. All these 5 star reviews are just paid bots to boost the ratings. Don't believe the lies. They will laugh at you as you are sick and dying. I think they get off on it honestly. This is a doctor training hospital for their unproven techniques on guinea pig vets. Again, I don't have a choice and I don't want to choose the WB VA for all my health care needs. I'm a prisoner of the Healthcare field and my health has declined so much to the point I have no quality of life. Stay away unless you enjoy being uncle Sam's guinea pig.
They give my husband excellent care. He has a many health issues and this place has been great.
Went for a c&p exams. I'd like to thank the np that seen me. She showed so much compassion and understanding. Asked everything as not to miss anything. Thank you again and thank you for your service!
Have been treated at the VA since 1983 every one takes care of my health. All of the care is great thank all for your care you give us. God bless all of you
My husband has been to a few different VAs and this is by far the best VA we have experienced. Every employee, nurse, doctor, etc goes above and beyond to make sure that he is taken care of. I don’t know what they are doing different than all of the rest but this hospital knows how to treat veterans. Truly feel so lucky to have this VA as his home base care provider.
When you call and stay on the line for the operator, there is a guy who picks up the phone half sleep and instead of sending the call to the right department tells you that you call the wrong number and hangs up on you quick… this happened to me twice!!! Same 2nd piece of S$:t…He sounds young and dumb.He always sounds sleepy and lazy you will know who he is, trust me.Then you get a “I don’t like my job/racist/I don’t care “ lady who you trying to explain what happened previously with the call and she tells you “how can I help you”. This whole thing has happened twice, first the lazy boy picks up and hangs up if he doesn’t want to help then if you let it ring enough time she will pick up. I have been going to this VA center close to 3 years and these people don’t reflect the professionalism given at the hospital, but a bad representation. Thanks for your time. ***** update***** I have called few times since the last review. Sleepy boy doesn’t pick up the phone anymore and everyone else is in a better mood and willing to help! Thanks VA ! Now you get them 5 stars
Call for the best
Dental is horrible. They have interns, who do not have the experience, work on your teeth! It seems I get a new intern every year and work from previous intern is lost! I’ve had impressions that were taken, and retaken and eventually lost! There is lack of supervision. Currently I can’t understand a word this Chinese intern is telling me about my teeth but it sounds important. He bumped the X-ray machine and the part with the frame and wire that holds the film fell to the floor. His assistant picks it up, rinses it off, drys it with paper towel and puts it back and moments later it’s being put back in my mouth for more X-rays. Since coming here my dental health has deteriorated and nothing has been done. Currently I’m working with patients advocate in trying to resolve issues. They seem to appease the veteran with regularly cleanings but no other work is scheduled or performed. They run you through their system until you question yourself why do I come here? The administrative assistant to the chief of staff tells me, “well, we are a training hospital!” Ugh!
