I have visited this place 3 times, and unfortunately every meal I had was disappointing. The Chongqing Xiaomian was traditionally meant to be mildly spicy and mainly features the fragrance of soybeans or peas, but what I had was extremely bland, and the toppings were barely enough to feed a bird. I also tried their Malatang and Malaxiangguo, but two literally tasted the same, and by this I mean the two are equally as watery. The soup had too much water and not enough seasoning, and as a result, it does not contribute to the flavour of the ingredients boiled in it at all. Not to mention that the menu was quite overpriced for substandard cafeteria-level food.
My experience at this restaurant wasn't satisfactory. I have to admit I put a lot of meat on my plate which is really heavy. I was just super disappointed that the employee didn't show me the price of the weighted food before cooking it. It is almost as if she wanted my decision to be final, even though I wanted to test how expensive was the food I got. She didn't even show me how much it weighed, so I was really frustrated. I probably could've put the ingredients back, since I didn't tamper with it at all. My final pricing was $18 dollars or so, which isn't that bad if the quality of the food is good. Thing is, the food wasn't anything special. It was just spicy, and since everything is cooked frozen, there wasn't sufficient tenderness of the protein for my liking. I wouldn't want to eat here again.
I ordered the B7 Beef brisket & tendon. The 2 pieces of beef brisket was tasty, but I've had more tender brisket elsewhere. There were 2 massive pieces of tendon, unfortunately they were so chewy and hard that they were not edible. The broth and noodles were very tasty. If you order "mild" for spice level, expect it to feel like medium or even spicier for some people.
One of my regular places to eat around UBC. I always order dried hotpot with rice no.2 NEVER DISAPPOINTED. /every of my friends also like it/ The owners are friendly too :
I ordered take out and when I opened the box at home, I can't find my spam, eggs and keep in there. They are stealing from your selection and this is a second time it happened to me. Thought it was a mistake last time, but now it's probably done on purpose. Never going again. ~~~Added later: Called them and they said they made a mistake during the busy lunch time, and offered me a free next meal if I'm going again someday.
Lamb patty was great. Bun was deliciously doughy and I grabbed some extra lamb skewers too.
Feel like we all go there for the hot pot and dry hot pot, which is really good but kind of hard to order online
Hands down the best Chinese street foods in Vancouver, even possibly in Canada
awful taste, ingredients are not fresh at all, will never come again….
It's alright, decent portion but taste could be better
