Story

Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe has the largest selection of whitewater kayaks, sea kayaks, recreational kayaks, paddleboards and canoes in Central Oregon. We also offer a range of tours and classes to improve your kayaking skills.

Whether you want to paddle the whitewater rivers of the Cascades or canoe across placid, high mountain lakes, our super friendly staff of paddlers are here to help. Our locally owned and operated shop is located next to the Colorado Bridge off SW Industrial Way, right on the Deschutes River.

Went for the whitewater immersion weekend with my fiance and had a ball! The staff were knowledgeable, patient and did a good job of explaining, then demonstrating skills. They let us pick them up at our own pace, failing as we went, but the supportive atmosphere they fostered made it so everyone got back into the boat and eventually succeeded. Note there is no formal 'roll' training in this intro course, which makes sense since that can take a huge amount of time to master, however the first night you demonstrate the ability to get out of your boat when upside down before you leave for the evening. Had a great time - you should do it!

We tell all our summer clients to drop by Tumalo for kayak and SUP Deschutes rentals - you could float the river but moving on the water is way more fun!

Good selection of clothing and gear. Prices maybe a little high but not outlandish. The clothes we bought seem to be good quality and like they should last. Time will tell. On our first visit, our kayak rental went really well and the staff were very helpful. The next day we came back to rent tubes and we were basically on our own - no help at all. What annoyed me the most was the payment system which asks you to select a tip % before you have received any service at all. The first day I feel like I under-tipped. The second day I WAY over-tipped! Grumble...

I went in to scope out options for taking the family/dogs on the lake, and came home with a massive canoe - mission accomplished. Absolutely amazing help from the staff: eager to demo options on the river, provided honest advice, and helped strap the monstrosity onto my car. In the process, they identified that I needed a new roof rack and gunwales, which they had on-site and helped to install (at one point there were three staff members helping me). Fantastic shop in general and I will continue coming back.

You can't visit this area without getting on the water, and there is no one better to rent equipment from than Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe!! We have rented stand up paddle boards in the past, but have never received such amazing service as we did at Tumalo Creek. From the moment we walked in, someone was there to greet us and guide us to get our rentals. The Deschutes is right out their back door...so convenient! Plus, the staff carried our equipment, helped us get on the water safely, and gave us tips for getting going. This was our favorite daytime activity while visiting Bend!! We had SO much fun!!
