Story

We have transformed one of Kitchener’s most architecturally-iconic buildings into its most vibrant self; an intimate downtown boutique hotel abuzz with fresh, contemporary energy and style.

This was our greatest transformation in over 100 years and while we preserved the soul and charm of our historic structure, we are breathing new life and flair into every corner. These significant improvements, coupled with an energetically devoted staff, promise to deliver a hospitality experience - individualized and unique - sure to please the most savvy and well-traveled guest.

We recently stayed at The Walper Hotel for two nights and, unfortunately, didn’t get much sleep. The beds were quite uncomfortable, and the pillows were far too soft for our liking.nnOn the positive side, the hotel staff were very accommodating and helpful throughout our stay. Parking was available for $18, which was reasonable, and the rooms were spacious enough for a comfortable stay. The location is excellent, right in the heart of downtown Kitchener, making it easy to walk to nearby restaurants and attractions.nnHowever, the nightlife around the area was a bit questionable, which detracted from the overall experience.nnWhile the staff and location were great, the lack of comfort made it difficult to fully enjoy our stay.
While the hotel is impressively located in a central area, my experience left much to be desired due to several shortcomings.nnFirst, the service was noticeably lacking. There was no clear information about parking for guests, leading me to park on the street and rush inside just to find directions. This could easily be improved with better communication.nnAdditionally, I was frustrated to discover that the main entrance closes at 10 p.m. without prior notification to guests, which is quite inconvenient. The breakfast situation was also disappointing; despite being assured at check-in that a continental breakfast was available, this turned out not to be the case.nnFurthermore, my room was positioned right next to the housekeeping storage area, resulting in daily disturbances from loud banging and clattering around 8 a.m. each morning—definitely not ideal for a restful stay.nnLastly, there was an issue with receiving my receipt after check-out. I was told it would be emailed, but I had to follow up multiple times before it finally arrived.nnOverall, I would recommend approaching this hotel with caution. With some improvements, it has the potential to be a much more enjoyable stay.
We recently had our wedding at The Walper Hotel and we cannot recommend this venue enough.nnFirst, our wedding coordinator Caely was absolutely AMAZING. From day one Caely’s attention to detail, experience and responsiveness made her an absolute pleasure to work with. Caely helped to provide feedback and advice on many aspects of our wedding day from layouts, to flow and timelines. Come to our wedding day and Caely did a phenomenal job at coordinating all of our vendors, helping to set up and ensuring that my wife and I were able to relax and focus on our big day. We could not imagine our wedding day without Caely and we are so thankful for her and all of her work.nnNot only did we have a great experience planning our wedding with The Walper but we had the most amazing wedding day. The spaces and decor in the hotel are so beautiful and all of our guests kept commenting on how beautiful the wedding spaces were. The food was also amazing - the beef short rib was especially delicious and many of our guests have commented on how much they loved the food throughout the night whether that be hors d’oeuvres, dinner or late night snack.nnFinally, all of the staff were absolutely amazing all weekend. From the front desk staff to bartenders and servers all staff went above and beyond and were amazing to deal with.nnWe are so happy that we chose to have our special day at The Walper and we would not change one thing about our day.nnThank you to everyone at the Walper that made our day so enjoyable!
We’ll be back!nThis was truly a welcome experience. There were no surprises, and the staff was polite, competent and considerate. The thing that really stood out for me was our dining experience in the THW Social restaurant. The food was excellently prepared and absolutely delicious, but the highlight of our evening was Carolina, the wonderful and personable hostess we had the pleasure of meeting there. She made us feel right at home and we left feeling like we had been welcomed into a family. Thank you so much, Carolina!
Room is a bit small. Hotel could do a little bit more in cleaning especially the bathroom. We were disappointed that our room was not clean on the second day. It would have been nice if we were notified or at least got some new towels. You would expect a little bit more from a four star hotel.
