I would suggest to anyone looking for a place to go in the By Ward Market avoid the Red Lion. The food was bland, tasteless, the vegetables were either overcooked and soggy or drying out on the plate as it was served. Dessert was passable, but no offer of coffee or tea to go with it. Staff were trying to be friendly, but failed, which might explain why the place was empty on arrival and still empty on departure. Unless there is another entrance or washroom facilities, that are extremely well hidden, the Red Lion also does not look handicap accessible, as all entrances i saw had stairs without hand railings, and the bathrooms are down two flights of stairs. Anyone with any mobility issues may have a problem accessing the services of this restaurant.

I had lunch at the Red Lion yesterday with a friend. The server was very good but the Warm Steak Salad was pitiful. The salad consisted of a slurry mush of cooked spinach, a couple of cherry tomatoes and a few halved fingerling potatoes that were barely cooked. The steak was cooked medium as ordered, barley warm and lacked flavour. Someone should let the cook/s know the “Warm” refers to the steak and not the greens cooked to oblivion. My star scores does not reflect the service which was pretty good.

Great place! Ross served us. Amazing guy.. Great service! Recommend you coming here to listen to live music.

I had wings and my hubby the muscles they were so good. I live the big patio and the Victorian look. It seem like an expensive place but it's actually cheaper than I thought. Great beer and wine selection and the bartender was so knowledgeable and entretaining. Will definitely going back!
