The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites

Boutique hotel experience. This hotel is where you need to stay when you are in Halifax. It has very kind and helpful staff. They have a great hotel bar downstairs. The lobby is like going back in time to its historical context. Overall, 10/10 stay!

We stayed at the Lord Nelson in October for a wedding. While the hotel's historical charm is evident, there's no denying that it is in dire need of some upgrades to match modern standards. Upon our arrival on the afternoon of October 13, 2023, the check-in experience was less than stellar. The staff at the check-in desk seemed disinterested and could probably use some customer service training. The woman barely acknowledged our presence, choosing to prioritize whatever she was doing on the computer rather than greeting us with even a simple “Hello, I’ll be with you in just one moment.” The door to our room would constantly get stuck, sometimes we would have to throw our whole weight into opening the door. Their common areas such as hallways and lobby were well-maintained and always kept clean. The prices are a bit expensive, but that is probably due to it’s location. It really is in the heart of downtown Halifax so it was really convenient for us to be able to walk wherever we needed to go.

Housekeeping stole electronics from us.nHomeless people harassed us coming from the parkade on multiple occasions.nOn-site laundry had broken equipment.nPhones in the room did not work.nRestaurant was closed.nnWe stayed there from out of province to have a baby at the IWK, and left early because I do not feel like my family is safe there whatsoever.nn-It's been enough of a nightmare having to be here half a day away from home to have a sick baby, this hotel was a horrible experience.nnWill be contacting the NB provincial government about this, as they subsidized the stay.

Loved our stay. Location made walking everywhere super easy. Huge thick towels, fluffy pillows, very clean rooms shout out to the housekeepers for doing a great job!. Loved the in-room kettle. Will definitely go back.

Hotel has some classic historical features while not appearing entirely dated. Rooms have been renovated and are clean. The pillows were not to my liking and, personally, I find this a critical element for a good night's sleep. Otherwise, the staff was friendly and the hotel is ideally located within walking distance to the water and local restaurants. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was mediocre but the coffee was fantastic.
