The Great George

The Great George is an absolutely charming hotel in a superb and exceptionally convenient location. The beautifully appointed property combines a lovely 19th-century main building with several surrounding heritage buildings, giving the entire hotel a wonderful sense of history and character. We also appreciated the ample free parking, the excellent breakfast and the well-equipped fitness centre. We were thoroughly delighted with our stay and would highly recommend The Great George to anyone visiting Charlottetown.

Update: Traditional room, 2-night weekday stay Mon/Tue for $1,060.nnThe hotel is fine. It has charm and a good location. However, it was not worth anywhere near the price. The rooms are small and on the older side, and navigating the parking lot for an available spot is challenging. Unfortunately, we had a minor incident at the hotel and received awful support investigating it. They attempted to suggest on multiple occasions that maybe it happened somewhere else it absolutely happened at their hotel. It felt as if they were trying to appear helpful but did not actually want to help or take any responsibility. At the end of the day we were disappointed with our stay and will choose somewhere else next time we visit. For a customer service oriented hotel, we were left feeling bad about our stay.

Very impressed. This hotel was a recommendation of a family member and I’m blown away. The history, the staff, location, cleanliness - it was all incredible. We stayed in the Wellington building. One thing I will say, parking can be tricky but we made out just fine during our 4 day stay. They offer fresh cookies daily, happy hour AND if you decline housekeeping, you can redeem each unused day for a $10 gift card at the front desk which is usable at any of their affiliated restaurants/locations - and there are many!nnI loved the view of the church from our hotel room window. Highly recommend!

Our stay at the beautiful historic Great George Hotel was memorable. We booked this for our anniversary, spent $1400 CAD for 2 nights and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The rooms and lobby are tired. Everything seems to be very old, worn out and in need of an update. The breakfast is mediocre, but the most frustrating part is trying to find a place to eat your food-they don’t have tables you can sit and eat at, just very large oversized furniture that a ton of people are trying to navigate through to find a tiny place to sit your food in your lap and eat it. We had our 2 year old son with us, we asked for a playpen, for which they delivered. However, the leg/wheel was broken off, so the bed sat at an angle and teetered. Which forced us to problem solve and put a book under it to keep it level and steady-not what you would expect for $1400. The bed was WILDLY uncomfortable and the pillows are old and flat. Every time we asked “concierge” for something simple things, it was impossible to get an answer, to get help or to get the thing we asked for. Again, when you pay that price and they have “awards” for their service and the hotel itself, what you expect for that is not what you get at this hotel. The parking, is not dedicated, it’s not easy to park. $1400 and no parking reserved? Again, very disappointed with this experience and the hotel. This is an “iconic” hotel, but I say skip it. There’s nothing cool, unique or interesting about this place. We are sad we wasted our money.
