I recently dined at The Daughter and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I enjoyed a bottle of wine from their extensive selection, and for food , I ordered the challah with whipped ricotta and hot honey, which was a perfect balance of sweet and savory. The red storm cheese and lonza were also tasty and nicely presented. The foie gras and chateau de Bourgogne were delicious as well. However, while the food was delicious, I felt that the portions were on the smaller side for the price. Overall, The Daughter is a lovely restaurant with good food and service, but the prices are a bit steep.
This place is a hidden gem. I discover this place because of a wine event. The interior is beautifully designed, it feels airy, spacious and zen. I started off with a flight of 5 different wines not sure if they always have flight options or just for this wine event. The glasses are immaculate. Afterwards, we ask for bottles and snacks recommendation and staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and patient, they provided free tasting on bottles that can be ordered by the glass, and answered our questions on the bottles. We do not feel being upsell at all. Service is great, water glasses are filled frequently. What surprised me is the food/ snacks. I am always under the impression that bottle shop won't provide decent food as they usually don't have a full kitchen. I was expecting cold appetizer standard cheese and charcuterie and hot microwave food. But this place completely changed my presumption. Challah w/ whipped ricotta and hot honey $8. They are able to replace the hot honey with regular honey. Light, aromatic the lemon zest and easy to pair with red or white wine. Charcuterie Lonza $12. A nice balance of fat and meat. Foie gras $18. It's actually foie gras paste instead of actual foie gras. It comes w/ apricot jam on the side as well. chateau de bourgogne $12 it's a kind of brie and it's super creamy, can be spread out like butter. Red storm $9, it's a kind of hard cow milk cheese like cheddar. Would like to try the preserved seafood next time and pair with white wine. I find this bottle shop is attention to details; for example, the cleaner that they use to clean the tables smell no bad, so when they clean the table beside me, I won't be smelling some really strong chemicals and affect my senses. The washroom is probably shared with a gym, but it's kept clean. Parking is a bit challenging, so if you plan to drink and not living in walking distance, may be should consider ubering. There's zero description of the bottles......May be they do this on purpose to encourage we ask the staff and/or keep the bottle wall less cluttered. But I personally would enjoy some brief tasting notes on the bottles. They do take reservation, and they seem pretty busy on Saturday. So I do suggest to call and reserve ahead!
Stop! Insane design, the coolest wines, like really cool wines, ciders off the charts, interesting IPA’s, super off the charts cheeses, cured meats and fish, the worlds best challah and neat salads. The Stop! We are in Leaside not the ultra cool downtown Toronto east or west. Leaside is so ordinary, typical but watch out Leaside owner Missy is about to turn you on your head. So, go and support this fantastic place where the staff is insanely friendly but more importantly very knowledgeable. Thanks guys for bringing downtown uptown.
Can't get enough of this new addition to the neighbourhood. The staff are friendly, cool, and highly knowledgeable- always keen to recommend something new & exciting or familiar & comforting, depending on what I'm looking for. The local, seasonal menu is as well thought out as their extensive wine selection. I've noticed they're always playing the perfect music to compliment the vibe- whether that be an intimate date, drinks and snacks with friends or a solo sip at the bar. The interior is impeccably designed, and well worth a trip uptown! Just love it!
What a great concept! Unique to the neighbourhood, cozy atmosphere, nice food and drink pairings, and friendly staff. I would have given 4.5/5 stars but it is a bit on the pricey side for fairly small portions - more aligned to small snacks or tapas rather than a dinner destination. But, excellent presentation and taste! We'd love to come back for some wine at the bar or some pre-dinner appetizers. Would recommend, especially for those looking for some lighter fare in a really cool space.
I love this new spot!!! Brought my kids for some delicious lunch and the best cappuccino!! Love the selection of organic wines and the friendly staff :- Definitely a gem of a place in a warm neighbourhood of Toronto! We will be back
This little cafe / wine shop is unique in its offerings of natural wines. As a wine lover it was interesting to have such a varied and eclectic collection brought together in one place. The night we visited, although being emailed, texted and called to confirm our reservation, they seated us rather hastily at the end of the bar despite assurances that they would find a “cozy table” on the phone. To add to that, the waitress was decidedly cool to us and only took our coats when asked. A little off putting given the lovely conversation I had when I dropped in a few days earlier with who I think was the owner. In any case the waitress eventually warmed up to us but I felt like it was us doing the work - very off putting. We live in the neighbourhood but rarely eat locally and so I was hoping for an experience I’d like to repeat and recommend. We will go back and are hoping for less than a frosty reception. Addendum: I am upgrading my review to 4 stars. The GM of the restaurant reached out to me to explain some of the circumstances of the night we were there. Kudos to them for making the effort to follow up and I wish them much success in this unique niche. We will be back.
Can speak about the food or ambiance as I use this place more like an LCBO. I stopped drinking wine a few years back as it often gave me headaches or generally left me feeling unwell the next day. I’m not sure if there is any science to it - but their natural wines don’t leave me with any of that. I get to enjoy great wine again.
Lovely place. Lovely service. Great selection of wine by the glass. You get to try before you pick what you want to drink. Delicious food as well. Great addition to the Bayview strip.
Beautiful ambience, great selection of food, wine and cocktails.
