They make it seem like such a good place to live. Management changes non stop and it seems to get worse each time. Everyone gets quoted different price. Says pet friendly but when I decided to get a dog after living here for 4 years I was told no pets allowed yet the new management moved in with a dog and new tenants moving in with dogs also. Office is closed most of the time and they make it seem like a chore when you call with a concern. Do your research before you decide to move here.
Had a pretty bad year living at Tennyson just moved out, thank goodness. However, I want to give the whole picture to help people make an informed decision. The good: - The residents are nice. Most people said hello and sometimes made small talk. - Location: Close to WEM, public transit, H&W, etc. There is also a cute pond nearby for walks. - Two elevators for only a few floors so the wait is generally not long. - Heated underground parking was nice. No break-ins that we heard of while living there. - Onsite maintenance was handy. The bad: - Constant management changeover: There were 3 different management teams in the 1 year I was there. We were not notified about the first management changeover I found out when I tried to call the initial manager and was told that they were in Ontario. There was a paper notification about the second change though. - Empty promises: Please do NOT believe anything they tell you unless it's written in your contract. Prior to move-in, we were told that there would be a new washer and dryer set, new blinds, and that the gaps in the floor boards would be fixed. When this didn't happen, we were told it was due to supply shortages which was understandable given COVID. But when we heard nothing after 6 months, we complained and were told that these things could be in our apartment the "next day". I sent a summarized email the same day, received a confirmation, and sure enough, nothing was done for the next 6 months. By the way, the dryer never actually worked, but we usually hang dried and foolishly thought it would be replaced anyway. - Lack of accountability: We've only complained on two occasions while living in the apartment. Once at the 6 month mark, and once upon move out when there was a miscommunication between previous management and current management about when our lease was going to end. Both times, I cound the managment extremely defensive and turned the blame entirely on us. The current management did clear up the miscommunication in the end, but it was non-the-less an infuriating interaction. - Predatory contracts: I have lived in 4 different rental places now and the Tennyson/Realstar contract is, by far, the most predatory. They will try to get you to sign without reading thoroughly but PLEASE READ YOUR CONTRACT THOROUGHLY AND QUESTION THEM ON EVERY DETAIL, because if you don't, it will be used against you. Realize that it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT for you to break lease early. You will need to give at least 2 months notice counting only from rent day, i.e. the 1st of the month, and will need to pay an additional administration fee. If you do not provide them advanced WRITTEN communication of your intent to leave after your lease is up, then it WILL DEFAULT to month to month. - Old buidling means constant maintenance. Prepare for water outages at least once a month. - Soundproofing was pretty bad. We were told that the buidling was "very quiet" and we would seldom hear our upstairs neighbours we heard every step. Our bedroom was also right above the main entrance and EVERYTIME the main doors opened, there was a loud creak and slam. Management said they couldn't do anything to fix it and so we just had to live with it for a whole year. A wood building is a wood building, tell it like it is. - The pet policy changed without notice went from pet friendly to no dogs allowed. When we complained about this, we were essentially told to check the website and it was implied that the pet policy was always this way it wasn't. - Poor quality: The units look nice at first glance, but you NEED to inspect closer. The "new appliances" all came dusty on the inside. The dishwasher didn't close properly and the fridge had an awful plastic smell. The bathroom walls are waterstained and the flooring is very cheap quality. The baseboards are also very old and worn. Overall, I do not recommend renting with Tennyson, and by extension Realstar. While it was a great learning experience, I can only be thankful that I never have to see this building again.
The previous landlord Harry and Sandra, of Tennyson apartments, in my opinion were friendly and helpful when things needed to get dune, thay made it happen. The grounds were taken care of property and in the winter months snow was removed, parking lots were always cleaned, and up keep in apartments were dune regularly. I also loved that on special occasions Harry and Sandra went the extra mile to make the tenants feel welcome. Sincerely Maryann
Hello, I have lived at Tennyson Apartments the last 15 months and my experience with your management team Leanne and Precilla have been outstanding. They keep us updated on any work to be done inside or outside the building in a timely manner, which is refreshing that the building is well taken off. Leanne and Precilla is very professional and friendly and go out of their way to make this our home. I am glad I call this my home for a long time to come. Great team!
I have been living at Tennyson Apartments since 11 years and I really love this place. The recent Resident Managers and their team is excellent. They maintain the building really well and take good care of the residents, especially the seniors. I feel safe and proud to call this my home. Keep up the good work Management team.
So far my roomate and I are thrilled with this place! The room is a decent and comfortable sizer for the 2 of us and so far we have no complaints! Leanne and Priscilla were also amazing and made our move in so much easier!
I was really impressed with the unit layout, and brand new appliances . The location and the underground parking are really convenient. Walking distance to the West Edmonton Mall and other amenities if you don’t drive. Leanne at the Management office is great very personable easy to reach even after office hours.
Tennyson is a nice and quiet place for families, elderly and single professionals. I have never encountered any bad experiences here or poor service, the place is well kept and maintained. Leanne in particular has always made sure my accommodations were met and that my stay here was comfortable. It's not a five star hotel but it was always home, should I find myself back in edmonton I would gladly take up Tennyson again.
Sandra & Harry, and their assistants Nestor & Fabiola are great managers and caretakers. They are always so willing to go above and beyond and always in a kind and courteous manner and with a smile on their faces! My grandmother lives in this building and whenever something needs to get done, they take no time at all to take care of matters! They appreciate their tenants and it shows! Along with that, the apartment and parkade are always clean and cared for. Pre-covid, the little community events they had for residents were always a nice touch!
The rental manager is absolutely terrible. She'd say one thing and then deny she said it, make up random apartment policies even though there was nowhere on our lease anything about these policies, and talking to her was just a lot of condescension. Apparently gave us strikes on our lease that we were never informed of. I've never had a problem with my landlords ever. The apartments are overpriced as well. We were okay with that when they had the awesome previous building managers. But then she took over and it was awful ever since. She seems sickly sweet at first but you'll see. I'm glad that my roommates and I got out. We found a much cheaper, much nicer apartment with everything tennyson had to offer and in the same area with the best landlords we could have asked for.
