Actually the price was not as cheap as it was. This is the current price on the shelf, No frills Cauliflower 10 cent less them here, it is not much can compare see photos only good deal are Tofu, pork. Others stable can be good. For people work here and hard they are worth 5star for me ..
I was just here before they closed and I decided to go to one of their big box competitors... because when I went to pick out a piece of fruit, a bunch of fruit flies had settled onto a bruised piece. There might have been ten fruit flies. I don't know who in their right mind would allow rotting fruit or anything attracting more than the occasional fruit fly into their produce section. It's like they're advertising that they don't care and are too cheap to care. I have other complaints about this place. Usually, the cashiers are slow, slower than is normal anywhere else. Yet they can seem a bit chatty. They also have one line open for restaurants, and although it isn't exclusively for restaurants, it allows restaurant employees to cut the already slow and often long line. Perhaps restaurants charging more money for prepared food shouldn't come here if produce is sometimes so rotten that there are more fruit flies touching the produce than humans at any given time. This isn't necessarily a bad place, but it's clearly one with low standards for its produce and its cashiers. The only reason I don't give this place a one-star is because I'll probably come back again sometime when their produce isn't a revolting attracter of bugs or otherwise of much lower quality than I'd keep in my own fridge. I had no problem buying a nice banana today from one of their competitors and eating it on my way home to write this.
Their produce is cheap, and usually pretty good. However they do have a habit of hiding moldy fruits and veggies by turning the rotten part toward the bottom of the package and don't notice it until you get home. As for the rest of the goods, with the exception of rice, not much is reasonable, minus the fruits and vegetables of course. Happy to have some fresh produce in the DTES. This place is a staple in the community for a lot. People from all over shop here it's just one of those markets.
Love the large selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. My kids love coming here with they're grandma. I love the exotic fruit asqell. I never seen an Aloe Vera plant arm being sold individually and such a humongous piece at that. Good stuff thank you sunrise
Good place for grocery. They have variety but don't always have the same in stock, for example there's not always meat for sandwiches or have little choice.but I like it for the food diversity. Good for all ethnicity.
In the hood early morning shopping here a handful times a year. They wholesale to different business eg. TnT and restaurants. Case lot sales for mango or papaya. They are not far from the port of Van. Although sketchy neighborhood they won't bother you. Just need to drive carefully. meter Street parking. Some organic prices are well priced. Tofu with no label not to the cut of perfection deals. If you are a vegetarian or vegan you'll find some great deals.
Most over priced corner store in the world due to them being the only place to use vouchers given by social services!!!! It's a crime to charge such jacked up prices on cereal milk jam...everything from eggs to soap...I'm not sure if they sell diapers and formula but I'd be interested to know if anyone knows...because if they're marked up like everything else maybe they should lose that priveledge or that contract since I don't believe it serves the community in the best way possible...for cereal and milk was 13 $...crazy!!!
One of the best grocery stores i’ve ever been. All the fresh produce is so fresh yet cheaappp.. so many selections of ingredients and seasonings from different countries too! You can find Tempeh here.
It was used to the best price chinese grocery in China town. However, after the renovation a few years ago, the business strategy changed and customer focus has changed and price is not that attractive.
Love this store! Good prices and a funky selection of Eastern and western foods, love how they're special's by the lineup change every few days, found a cheese whizz knockoff 2 for 5 dollars
