Great hospital and caring people. They got us in and out of emergency in a decent time. They saw us in very fast. They took care of everything very well. Will make this the hospital I return to in the future.

I wouldnt put any star on them. Horrible service experienced twice. Flabatomologist/nurse drawl g blood while chatting with someone. Almost had the needle pop out from other side. Secondly my new born went for blood test, they assured the report will be over to the pediatrician next day. Just called the lab and found out they will mail it which will take 2 days before doctor gets it. My god, how do they even exist as a hospital???? My suggestion, if you wake up on this hospital and have the energy to crawl, RUN

Came in for foot surgery ( same day surgery)and found staff to be very friendly and professional. Nurses checked in on my comfort level. After surgery a nice warm blanket was offered and i gladly accepted. All employees seemed genuinely happy and content at work. No negative experiences to report. Thank you to all of the employees that made my surgery visit the best it could be under my circumstances. Frank Penzin

Have the ambulance take you somewhere else!! The administrative practices at this hospital are beyond outdated, and it negatively affects care. My family member was admitted under an attending physician that was never there. We waited around all day for the attending physician to round, as the staff assured us that he rounds "very late", as in after 9 pm. At 9 pm sharp, a security guard walked the floor to ensure that all family was kicked out for the evening. The hospital plan seemed to be for the docs to see patients only after all family has left the room. This includes patients with dementia who are unable to respond to questions and who are unable to provide any medical history. It turned out that the doc never showed up at all, so it was a moot point. Great continuity of care, guys. The medical specialties that were consulted did not round on him every day; we were in the room all day every day, and we did not see them. If they had signed off on him, we were never informed. We had to request care that should have been done in the first place, in my opinion. My family member had fallen at home. Only after we requested that his back pain was evaluated did he receive an xray, which showed he did have a fracture. This was 3 days into the hospitalization. We requested a transfer to his regular hospital and to his regular doctors, and Oakland Gen suddenly jumped into action-- but they did not even attempt to schedule the transfer. The lesson is: your family member will be imprisoned if admitted. All throughout the hospitalization, the nickel and dime-ing of care continued. Some of his home medications were not ordered because, per the doc, they were "over the counter medications". Really. So apparently in their eyes, they did not deserve to be a part of the care plan. They gave him a half-dose of tylenol for his fracture pain until we had protested enough to get him a whole dose of regular strength tylenol. The RNs are apparently instructed to never divulge information- a simple "what are you giving him" question results in suspicion at this place, unlike any other hospital that I've ever audited. Thankfully, this can be overcome when you get a nurse that has not been completely institutionalized by this dinosaur of a hospital. My family member's shortness of breath is exacerbated by a low volume of blood (blood carries oxygen throughout the body). His routine doctors know this, and he receives medications to help him make more blood, but he also receives a blood transfusion from time to time. This place would not even entertain the thought because they will not stray from the "rule" that they cannot transfuse unless the patient's blood level reaches a specific number (I won't bore you with too much detail), even though the patient has obvious symptoms and a history which demonstrates that the breathlessness is relieved with transfusion. There were a few positives that I will mention so that the people that provided those positive points are recognized: we had some attentive nursing aides that really did try very hard. Some of the nursing staff and the respiratory therapists also worked well with us as they got used to us. I think that PT also was helpful, although I was not in the room to personally witness those exchanges. The emergency room was practically empty, but they did get the antibiotic hanging -- not within a half hour of presentation in the ER with pneumonia symptoms, but it wasn't like it took forever either. They may have thought they were dealing with asthma or something at first glance, so these things happen. They did treat the shortness of breath quickly. I think that better communication between the medical physician staff and the family could have prevented some of our complaints. We didn't even know what his diagnosis was -- why he was being hospitalized, what he was being treated for-- until we requested a transfer. Will be filing a complaint. Doctors should be present at acute care facilities, not turfing out every aspect of treatment. This place is dangerous.

This was the worst experiences I have had in a hospital! From the nursing staff to the kitchen. I had to spend three days here and each one was a nightmare. I had the luxury of being in the first room right by the main desk for the floor, with every change in staff I was able to over hear conversations at the desk. With the amount of racial slurs and profanity used I can not believe the people that work there are still employed. Not only did I have to listen to that but when they came into my room it carried on. Then I had to deal with a nurse that didn't like that I have tattoos, she made comments after comments about how I looked and the only problem I had was with my skin. Ordering food was a fight in it's self, all I wanted was ice water and fruit. I ordered that at 6:30am when the kitchen opened, I didn't receive the food till after 8am. They told me it took time to make the food.??? Make what? I asked! Then I started paying attention to the times I ordered to the time I received my food, the earliest I got my order was an hour and a half. I looked at the time they were putting on my order slip and they were 40-50 minutes off. I would pay the ambulance drivers to take me to another hospital so I would never have to go back!
