The South Kitsap Helpline Food Bank has served the community with the generosity of our community for more than 30 years. Thank you for your support!
South Kitsap Helpline is a non-profit hunger-relief agency serving Port Orchard and surrounding Kitsap County areas. Last year, we helped to provide food to more than 50,000 local children, adults and senior citizens.
In early 2010, Helpline purchased the local Port Orchard Nursery which had closed after 49 years of business and FINALLY acquired a permanent home for our agency made possible by a generous grant from the Birkenfeld Trust. Our food bank and offices are located here as is a small storefront on-site from which we sell plants, flowers, produce and vegetable starts to the community to help benefit our program. We use the three commercial greenhouses and the large garden at our new home to grow healthy veggies and herbs that are distributed to our food bank clients.
Feedback from food bank clients about the changes our agency has made is overwhelmingly positive. We look forward to incorporating more nutrition education, gardening and cooking classes into our program within the next few years to help our clients gain knowledge and skills that will help them become more self-sufficient and empowered.
The mission of South Kitsap Helpline is to empower people & eliminate hunger by providing healthy food and emergency resources to those in need. You can make a donation here: http://bit.ly/UEMUu5
