Slows Bar BQ Grand Rapids

We're not particularly happy with the change to a sit down style and, maybe we are imagining it, but the prices seem to have gone up while portion sizes went down. We're especially sad the mac and cheese wasn't in a metal tin anymore because it had a tasty crust all around and that's gone. A lot of the charm of eating a platter of meat in a casual atmosphere went out the window. That being said, this is still some of our absolutely favorite BBQ in town. It's tasty and the sides are awesome, too. The sauce is all delicious. I'm absolutely in love with the cornbread and honey butter. The yardbird sandwich is my go to while the boyfriend prefers the pulled pork. Though we don't get alcoholic drinks often, the selection at the bar is more than enough to satisfy us and then some. And the staff here always seems happy which is refreshing.

The new layout is alright. Our table service was good. Our waiter seemed fairly new and he did a good job. I forgot his name tho. The BBQ was wet as always and I'm definitely going back. Their sauce selection is awesome and it's hard to pick a favorite.

Slows is good, and it's a great spot for the Downtown Market. I'm sure it made sense to go to full sized orders off the menu, but I was very sad to see the a la carte menu go away (ordering the exact amount of meat you want). The meat is normally good, but I've had hit or miss cuts before. This is especially true with the ribs. The Brisket is almost always spot on.

The problem is right in their name. Slow. Sad communication skills at best. Was on hold for 15 minutes for a carry out order. Called from 2nd phone.. Got order in as we were pulling up.. Was told 20-30 minutes... Ah no thanks. That was the point of calling ahead... Ended up leaving a voice mail 3 minutes later on the original call... Was on the phone a total of 18 minutes and no person besides the a Lady asking us to hold. Wasn't worth average BBQ that's overpriced to wait when we tried to get it ordered earlier.

Slows used to be good in Grand Rapids, but now they changed the way it’s set up for ordering by the pound. Yesterday I stopped in to by some brisket and found they no longer have it ready to go. The order gets mixed in with the rest of the restaurants orders. Now it takes longer and it costs more. I was in line with 4 or 5 other people and felt bad for the cashier cause they were all complaining to her. After waiting what felt like forever, the manager finally came out and acknowledged I had been waiting for a long time. He went and grabbed my food. Unfortunately, when I got home I found that I had a pound of pulled pork and not a half pound of brisket. I don’t eat pork so I gave it away. I also ate I. The restaurant before hand, and the sandwich I ordered was the new style. It was okay, but damn they put way too many jalapeños on that. Slows has a good concept, but I will no longer go out of my way to eat there. I feel they owe me $12 plus tax for messing up my order.
