The lodge, view, grounds, and activities are top notch; can’t be beat. The staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful, caring and really knowledgeable about the area and offer great recommendations. The facial and massages were really a treat and some of the best I’ve ever had. Now for the things to be aware or concerned of: DO NOT EAT HERE. It’s not that you’ll get sick, you’ll simply be terribly disappointed for throwing your money away. Every meal here was truly on another level of bad. Too salty, bad cocktails, flavorless salads, everything we ordered was off in one way or another. The staff all recommended other restaurants in town and we’re glad we took their advice. After day one we didn’t eat another bite at the lodge, period. Trust us, until they replace the chef you’ll want to act like the restaurants don’t exist. The spa area is a bit of a mess… everyone going to the pool will walk through there which can very disruptive. Coming out of your massage you can be greeted by a dozen people in the lobby begging for towels and trying to make their way through a series of cryptic passageways. The layout is to blame here as the staff are trying their best but also visibly frustrated. I’ll definitely stay here again, but I’ll save my money and eat in nearby Stevenson.
Beautiful lodge, nice rooms, great service at all levels: check in, event workers, restaurant employees. All were friendly, welcoming and anxious to please. We were there for Norman Sylvester's Holiday Party which was wonderful. People working set up, food service, and clean up were all very pleasant and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire stay and experience. Beautiful environment as well.
Rooms, service, and location are all incredible. Beautiful setting nestled in the hills of the Columbia River Gorge. Surrounded by walking and hiking trails and has an amazing view of the Gorge. Rooms are super comfortable and service is reliable. The only reason I left 1 star off is that the food was just okay. If we're talking hotel only, 5 stars.
I'm a little behind on this review: My family and I had attended the Thanksgiving buffet last year, for the first time and were so impressed by the professional service that we wanted to ensure the staff received proper recognition! We were particularly impressed with Russell in the dining area, as well as Lauren. They were incredibly kind, professional, and courteous the entire evening. The buffet was a treat for my mother and daughter, and the level of service we received made our experience a wonderful one. Thank you to Russell and Lauren!
Very substandard dining experience while we stayed at Skamania. We made a dinner reservation. Went to the bar/restaurant about 1 hr ahead of dinning room reservation to have a cocktail and appetizer. The waitress AND hostess both forgot about our table. They seated a family next to us way after us. They took their order and brought them water. I found the hostess to let them know. She blamed it on the waitress. Then I saw them arguing over who should take the table. Very unprofessional. We were literally a party of 2 with a child. Our child was getting restless. Finally their arguing was resolved and someone took the table. We were finally brought our appetizer but no plates. It was a messy dish impossible to eat with a plate as it was hot. I had to get up again to find someone. I went to dinning room to let them know we would be late. They said it was fine because they were behind. We finish our appetizer and go to the dinner area only to be told we lost our reservation because we didn't show up on time. No discount or even free drink offered. Write had a restless child the whole time. Aside from terrible service the food was mediocre for a fine dinning establishment.
The treehouse rooms are not cheap but they are a lot of fun it's a very cute idea. The room we were in had equipment issues so FYI. The fan in the fireplace ran intermittently even with a fire off and it was a screeching thing so I would recommend testing the fireplace to make sure it's okay or the wall heater because if they're not while the maintenance people are mostly responsive it's not something you want to deal with late at night like I did. But notwithstanding that the environment of the place and the people are quite nice.
Great place, relaxing and quiet! It is expensive for what it is. The room rates are somewhat ok price but then once you get there it starts getting expensive fast. Simple breakfast for 2 adults is $50, the dinner menu is very small and very expensive!! The chili was excellent though. They need more outdoor hot tub space in a bad way! One outdoor hot tub and it was PACKED! Super quiet and relaxing time though. Rooms: Room was very small but nice and quaint.
Second time out here, this time for a work event. Cool spot, awesome views, food was catered so I'm not sure if that was normal restaurant food. Attractions were closed but that was expected for the season. There was construction going on and it smelled like sewage down by the covered area... I'm assuming this was from the construction but dang... Overall good experience.
Staff was friendly but we made dinner reservations at 8:15 for our Valentine’s Day weekend trip. When we arrived on time they said there was 8 other family’s ahead of us. So we had to settle for a pizza and a burger in the other restaurant. While relaxing in the pool a high pitched alarm was going off for 10+ minutes. It was a disturbing alarm and ruined relaxation. It’s a great place otherwise. Great views and friendly staff. Just a few letdowns. We would still return
The room was spacious in the bed was comfortable. Downside was my floor lamp didn't work or if it did I couldn't figure out how to turn it on. Lights in the room all had an amber color which made it very hard on the eyes I get the ambience part of it but I would have preferred White lights. TV was small and tucked off into a corner but to be honest I was there for a meeting so I came back to my room and pretty much fell asleep. I could hear my neighbors showering in the morning which made it difficult to sleep past 6:00 but again everything was comfortable so I can't really complain too much. The grounds themselves are absolutely beautiful and most of the staff was very friendly and outgoing. I will definitely give this place another go.
