Genuinely one of the best grocery store clerks I’ve ran into before, he sounds like he should host a sports game or something. Super funny and kind and helpful and very cheerful and enthusiastic especially considering I was a dick and was checking out 4 minutes before close. Made the announcements for it about to close very enthusiastically I noticed it made multiple people smile. He deserves a raise! : his name was Chris. All of the employees have all been very friendly and helpful.nnI would give it a 5 star but I’ve had issues with the quality of groceries twice now :/. as a reward for a good test score I bought myself some blackberries and raspberries each $10 so as a student that’s a lot for me haha not even 2 hours later I was eating them and already had the handful of the black berries and see the rest is all fuzzy mold… I checked the raspberries.. mold. Made me super sad but can’t say if it was a one off or not because I just haven’t boughten any since. I then bought some hot dog buns and had already served some and eaten one myself and then notice there is a bun with a bite out of it.. a large one.. all the people with me and myself were small women with half the bite size so I know it was some random person in the store that then put it back. Really grossed me out.. I’m not sure if that’s the store itself problem though because I don’t expect them to sift thru every bag of breads and make sure some guy didn’t take a chomp but I’d just recommend to take a check urself before eating.
Rotten Produce, Moldy berries, and Staff That Don’t CarennSo I’ve learned that Save-On-Foods on 109th Street and jasper genuinely doesn’t care if they sell you rotten food. Like could care less that you’re hard earned money is spent on something that could make you sicknnWalking through their produce section, it’s pretty common to find rotting onions, produce that’s rock hard and unripe, or over ripe and mushy….or stuff that’s literally already starting to mold. But today pushed it over the edge.nnI checked the raspberry section and multiple packages had visible blue fuzzy mold. I figured maybe it was just a bad shipment — so I pulled all of them and stacked them aside. I told the produce staff that they were moldy and expected they’d handle it properly.nnNope. I circled back 10 minutes later and saw her PUTTING MOLDY BERRIES BACK on the floor?? You can see the mold and I told her about the mold and she still put them out for people to buy!nnGood luck complaining to a manager — I have tried. He just shrugged and would say “yeah that’s fine, we’ll take it off the floor,” and then the exact same thing happens again the next week. No apology, no ownership, no interest in fixing it. They just want you menu and sell you literal trash to get it.nnThis isn’t a one-off. I’ve personally found rotten food here as far back as 2023, and it’s now 2025. So this is just how this store runs. Save your money and go 2 blocks to Safeway or loblaws if you need perishable food.nnI won’t be buying any fresh produce from this location ever ever ever again. And after seeing how casually they handle visible mold, I wouldn’t trust any department that has to check for perished items.. If you care about your health or your money, take your business somewhere that gives a damn. It’s so sad the lack of quality or care in a place that supplies food! You can make people sick!
Stopped here for a few last-minute items and am sometimes pleasantly surprised. It’s a bit pricier than some other markets, but they had Häagen-Dazs on sale—$4.99 with my More Rewards card—so I stocked up! Convenient location, always clean and deals are there if you keep an eye out.
Convenient central location. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve never had a problem with their produce. Good rotating sales. Small seating area just off the entry if you need to sit and have a snack before attempting to shop on an empty stomach. Starbucks inside the store.
One of the best grocery stores in the city with remarkable numbers of employees. Employees are very helpful and always kept busy themselves with down stocking. That’s how inventories are always full and almost all employees try to help customers whenever needed. Awesome shopping experience.
