Wonderful old house away from city life. Great place to get away from it all and enjoy some solitude.

Nancy was a very welcoming host. I had a very late check in and she was present to welcome me. There were good options for breakfast. Very large kitchen for all your cooking needs.

I went to my sister's wedding July 2017 and spent the night here with my brothers & sisters. At first glance it looked alright and the main rooms were spacious. When we were showed our room the door would not open because it was up against the bed. My sister and I shared this room. We are in our 60's. The beds were actually cots with head and foot boards attached. If you pay attention to the photos provided you will see how tiny this room is. I felt claustrophobic and one look at the bed told me I'd be paying for it in the morning. There was no air coming up through the vent. My sister did get the window open but it was too full of little critters to leave it open. I slept on the couch downstairs just to have space and air to breathe and a bit more back support. The air itself smelled of mold and mildew coming from the open basement and it actually made me cough it was so strong. The toiletries provided were large bottles and half used up which I found a little nasty. There was even a shower scrungee. How many people were supposed to use that? There was no hand soap, not even in the kitchen. I had to use shampoo. They did provide a lot of nice towels but few washcloths. I did appreciate the rack of pamphlets for local attractions plus a stack of magazines and a selection of DVDs, but we had to plug in the tv and video box and program it with the right remote so without my brother knowing how to work all that the tv would've been useless. He also had to figure out the hallway light - - the bulb in the ceiling fixture had been unscrewed. Good luck reaching that if you're my height. The bride- to -be booked this for us and she was told breakfast was only provided with 2 nights stay so her mother-in-law prepared a breakfast for us. But when my brother and his wife arrived they were told breakfast was in the fridge. ???? There was also no one at the house to meet him and his wife and when the hostess did arrive her young girl was jumping on their car then was jumping on their bed and asking to see in his luggage. They stayed in the very large room with dinette set and jacuzzi and ensuite with shower. They did enjoy that room very much. This huge room was only $30 more than the closet sized room that I was supposed to share and the one bathroom down the hall for the rest of us. I believe this pricing is a little out of whack. We found the place to be very dirty with ceiling stains , grungy cupboards, loose deck railing, and we kept tripping on the porch step because the first step was one inch lower than the porch floor . Even the decorations had seen better decades. I killed 2 beetle type bugs in the kitchen sink and the drains were disgustingly dirty. So I would not have cooked breakfast there anyway. Luckily we were invited out to the in-laws because they had a beautiful place that really could be put to use as a B&B and the welcome we received there was enough to put smiles back on our faces. These people live close by and they did tell us that Saugeen B&B changed hands but it used to be very good and that's why it was recommended. I would gladly have paid the extra for a nice motel room than stay here again.
